I have had 3 maine koon cats--2 males and a female. The males can get VERY large--our current male reached sixteen pounds, and would have gotten bigger but he developed diabetes so he's down to about 14 lbs. He is still much larger than any of our other cats--his paws are bigger, his nails thicker, his head is bigger, and of course his whiskers are longer! And he is not fat--he is just very solid.
Our female maine koon is much smaller, (about 10 pounds) but we think she is only 1/2 mc, and 1/2 something else. Even so, with all of her fur, she looks like a giant compared to our two short-haired cats, one who is a year-old tabby, and the other who is a tuxedo kitten.
But maine koons make WONDERFUL pets, and I strongly recommend them. They are calm and personable, patient with kids (for the most part) and very friendly. And they are beautiful, too! Good luck!
