i was thinking of trying to learn the drums and i want an opinion from fellow musicians. because, honestly, i think drummers have the most fun. i play piano and don't get me wrong it's awesome and all but the happiness i see in drummers as they play makes me envious.so any opinions/tips? much appreciated.

Drummers are fun! And drumming is fun! But it is not as easy as they make it look! There really is a lot of techinique to drumming. It is actually one of the most difficult to learn and to learn properly. But it can be done, and it can be fun...I say go for it!

Interesting endeavor. From what I have gathered over the 40 years I've been playing keyboards is that to be a good drummer takes some skill. The emphasis is on GOOD, otherwise why bother? To be a good drummer you should take some drumming lessons even if from a good drummer friend or good professional drummer(even better). These lessons can be basic as long as you build on what you have learned by much practice, performance and/or continuing lessons. Also I believe that to be a good drummer you need to be physically fit. A good drummer uses a lot of sweat and hard work to impress the audience with jaw dropping rolls, fills, drum stick tricks, etc. Good luck, I wish you many recordings and releases. Go for it. But don't stop trying to learn more about playing the piano. Your piano playing will immensely help you in becoming a better drummer. In my experience, a drummer who only plays the drums, and is not accomplished in another musical instrument, tends to fail in communicating with other musicians. You'll need that piano background in order to understand what the other musicians, you're playing with, are trying to do. They always say that the drummer is the one who lays out the foundation of the song. It would be rather hard to lay it out if one can't see or understand what that foundation will try support. In my 20 plus years of playing guitar, I'm more comfortable playing with a programmable drum machine than a human drummer. Because sadly, I find it easier to communicate with it. LOL!
