it has been an ever so old tradition that when people get sick, especially in the barrios, they bring them to a "mang tatawas".
are there still quack doctors around? do people really improve after being seen by these quack doctors?
for example, babies wear red and black bracelets, or pin red cloths on them, "para hindi mabati". and when they cry a lot or probably have nightmares, a mangtatawas would see them and they get better. is it really for real?

I grew up in a barrio where this type of healing is common. My granpa's house where we used to live sits on a hill overlooking his fishpond. During my childhood, I used to play alone or go wandering in the woods around the house in the early afternoon. When the night comes, I suddenly experience fever & chills which will not go off even when immediately treated with medicines. My mom would then bring me to a mangtatawas who happens to be a relative of my lolo. Some formations will come out as if pointing to what or who caused me ill. Then he would pound the formed tawas until its powdery & let me step on to it as if taking revenge.lol!. He would then asked to rest to feel better the next day. It happened to me several times. I guess it still exists nowadays.

Paranormal exists. However, it's important to know that there are still a lot of people in the barrios that are pretending to have knowledge of the occult as that is their bread and butter. It has been embedded already in our minds and already formed part of our culture to believe in the supernatural and i think it will take a long time for people to realize that there are more quacks that real ones.
