Philosophy and Education can be differentiated. While both of them deals with knowledge, I think that there are still some differences. Philosophy for me is a matter of belief while education is a matter of learning things in order to survive in this world. My question is, can education and philosophy exist without one another? Can there be education without philosophy or can there be philosophy without education? What is the connection between philosophy and education?

hi this is what I had researched for your question. :) Within education, the term "philosophy" is casually used to cover a complex and varied a group of traditions. There are at least 3 diff. traditions w/c are commonly called as "philosophical". (Wisdoms, institutional philosophies or ideologies and Critical philosophy. The problem with educators in a pluralistic society is that they must deal with competing wisdoms and ideologies. Critical inquiry provides approaches and methods with enable them to do so with a minimum of bias toward any one of competing perspectives. The practical use of critical inquiry requires some restriction of focus, initially at least, so that it moves easily from theory of application. Thus, in focusing on education we will restrict critical inquiry to criteriology, that is, it is the study of justications, sources, and forms of criteria for decision-making in education contexts.

Connection? You can study "Philophy". Part of education. But you can't Philosophise eduction. lol. Philosophy is belief. Education is knowledge learned. So they are very different from each other.

For me I think both co-exist and can't be separated. Or should I say they're just virtually interconnected to each other. Philosophy is the study of the nature and principles of knowledge and education is the act or process of learning or educating. In education we learn and in philosophy we try to go deep into the principles of knowledge or education.

You asked hard questions here, Annierose. I don't know much about philosophy as I never learned about it. I do believe in my own made kind of philosophy which mostly are scrutinized and looked upon as weird by others. I think if people have a good education, he or she should be able to pick up some kinds of philosophy for a better peace of mind and contented life.

Philosophy is one thing and education is another. Education is the passing of known information on to another. Philosophy is simply ones beliefs. If other people want to listen to to them or not, is up to the potential listener.

I think of philosophy as a way of learning how to organize your thoughts and how to present them in a clear way, so other people can understand them (when it comes to complex argumentations, not just simple, everyday stories and ideas). It was a philosopher who once said that what differentiates an extraordinary man from common folk is the ability to focus on a subject, and not let his mind wander from one thought to another. I don't know if philosophy is strictly necessary for education, as there are other ways to achieve the same result - advanced mathematics, music and learning a foreign language - some say Latin is the best - all "force" the mind to think into patterns that put things into a new perspective.
