Okay, first of all i have no idea if this will be deleted.
I just heard this on the radio and this made me wonder as well.
We all brush our teeth, i think.
But, i am sure a lot are scared of that toothbrush or something.
Wonder if they bite?
Now, some brush their teeth when they get up in the morning, others do it when they are done with breakfast or whatever it is they do in the mornings.
What we don't understand is, why do people brush their teeth when they get up in the morning, then have their breakfast and go off to work, school or whatever?
Ain't you suppose to brush after you have eaten?
That was how i was taught.
I just don't get it.
Any ideas?
TATA.

Hi, Saphy.:)
I was taught , too, that every after meal I should brush my teeth especially in the evening to stop the possibility of cavities plaguing your teeth.
But, as I grew older, I noticed that it is not necessary that we brush our teeth ONLY after meal but also as needed. I am proud to say that I have no tooth cavities and I don't have a bad breath but there were times when I wake up and there's a need to brush my teeth, my tongue and the whole mouth. Those were the times when I had eaten spices the night before that they left that pungent smell in my mouth that it seemed awful the next day. It isn't really my teeth, per se, that needs brushing but the whole mouth especially the tongue.:)

Hi sweetie.
Yip, it tens to differ for a lot of people.
But i still don't know why they brush their teeth before breakfast.
Maybe that is something i won't ever understand.
I brush 3 times a day and i don't even eat 3 times.
Sems a lot forget to attack that tongue, though.
Thanx.

When you wake up tomorrow, cup your hands over your mouth then say hahhhhhh. Do not remove your hands... then, inhale.
Ater that, if you still dont know why people brush their teeth when they get up in the morning then you are very fortunate because other normal human beings like me have a rather unpleasant morning breath

If that is the case, then u can use a mouth fresher or eat a mint flavored chocolate .
This would save your time and water and also the energy which are required for brushing your teeth !!
I have some more to add, i want my teeth to look white in nature, so brushing is necessary !!

Sweetie, do you really want me to do that??
I think i will get a minty smell, though.
Now that is what i call a cool breath in the morning.
Love that wit, though.
guna, you do not tell people to eat sweets and chocolates.
That's freaking unhealthy.
I will send you some green toothpaste, okay.

Good question Saphrina. I was taught to brush after each meal. I don't as a rule eat breakfast so in the morning, I brush and floss. I don't usually eat anything until lunch time. There are those rare occassions that I go out to breakfast in which case I brush and floss before leaving the house and then eat. I know that it is important to brush when you get up.I forget the exact explanation for it but I do know it's important. oh wait...i do remember. It's because more saliva forms while you sleep and it rests on your teeth and oh maybe I don't remember the full explanation

I brush my teeth when I get up in the morning... I am lazy to brush again after I eat my meal... I do not know which is the right one, but I feel like brushing as well when I am taking my bathe... I feel fresh, when I couldn't brush my teeth when I bathe, I feel not that fresh at all. I know one person too that is fun of brushing his teeth before and after eating, well I am sure he is not lazy like me. I mean I am not lazy, but in terms of that I only make it everyday hahahaha, and I guess that's enough... Call me whatever hahahaha.

Honestly sweetie, we should be brushing our teeth after every meal! Which means at least four times in a day. :) But we get lucky at times. We find good toothpastes, which can save us from most of the problems - for 12 hours. So brushing twice is what makes sense.

I brush my teeth first thing in the morning as during the night a thin coating seems to form over my teeth. I talk to people before and during breakfast so I do not want to have a "morning breath"...yuk! As I like my teeth to feel squeaky clean when I run my tongue across them I brush after meals, in the morning and at bed time.

Personally, I brush my teeth before I eat, since I have a partial that I would prefer to have in before I eat, although I do often eat without it in. I think brushing is part of the daily routine of showering and whatever is done in the morning, so is often done before eating.

Well the best person to ask is a dentist they should be able to tell you the best answer. I know that they say to brush your teeth after each snack or meal but they also know its not always possible so they say at least twice a day is what matters the most. I brush mine as soon as I get up because I have horrible morning breath. Then after a little while I eat breakfast and then brush my teeth again. Anytime I leave the house or am having company if I had just eaten I will brush my teeth. Then I usually dont brush my teeth again until I am goig to bed unless I notice bad breath before then. But why do you wonder if this discussion will get deleted? It seemed like a fine discussion to me!

Yes it is important I think to brush your teeth as much as you can to get the food particles off which cause decay and lead to cavities. I've never had a cavity thank goodness! I've also never had a discussion deleted either. Has that happened to you a lot? What a waste of time that would be. I always do a search before creating any discussion as thats what mylot wants. If someone else asked the same question they want us to comment on that discussion instead of starting our own. But dont worry I've seen plenty very VERY similar ones. It doesnt seem like they delete discussions very often.

No she wasnt encouraging brushing once a day. But many students said they only brushed once a day at bed time. She was just saying that at least if your going to brush once a day that bedtime would be the best for that. In fact i only brush once a day. But if im at home and eat something sugery i will brush. Or after coffee to avoid coffee breath i will brush.

Hello Saphy, when i will have kids i will teach them to brush everyday before going to bed and after getting up in the morning. Brushing after meals is great, but try to be regular at it... ... LOL.
I don't remember where but i had seen this program where they said that, inactivity in the mouth for long can cause germs to attack your teeth, now that is the time when we sleep. So the morning brush is the most important of all. If you can chew a bubble gum while sleeping, you might not need to brush in the morning!

Hello Voldi.
You and those kids, okay i get it.
Don't you dare chew any gum, just not to brush in the morning.
I will whip you so hard your teeth will fall out or something.
Now try to remember that program, i need an answer here.
Thanx, Voldi.

I think when you're an adult you're supposed to brush twice a day. But as children we're taught to brush after we eat because children tend to eat a lot of things with sugar in them. As we know that's what causes cavities. Anyways just a thought....
Happy Mylotting!

I am an adult and I tend to eat a lot of things with lots of sugar in them hehehe. I brush as soon as I wake up so I wont have bad breath but then yeah sometimes it does make the food taste weird and then I brush them after I am done eating as well. Some people have post nasal drip when they sleep so even if they brush there teeth before bed they wake up with horrible breath.

Hey thats a cute one. I was told once - Lions never brush their teeth and their teeth stay healthy! I know that was told to me as a joke but I still have it in mind. I am too lazy to brush my teeth more than twice.
I brush after I get up in the morning and at night before I go to bed.
Brushing after eating makes more sense but then, who would like to brush teeth at office? When I used to go to the office I preferred to use this extra time to relax myself and have a friendly chat with my students or colleagues. But I think you are right and brushing should be done after eating.

Hi saphrina, i feel we must brush our teeth in the morning when we get up to keep our mouth/oral in hygienic, which avoid from bad breath or gems. I will do the first thing is that brushing my teeth after that i will start any other work. And we have brought up like that to brush our teeth first and i will teach my son also like that. I feel it is one of the good habits. Doctors also suggest us to brush our teeth after eat also or before going to bed.
Have a good day dear.

My mom trained me to brush my teeth everytime I get up in the morning and it's been my routine since. LOL.
Her reasons was that "for hygiene's sake" and even though I have brushed my teeth already after I get up, I still brush my teeth after I eat breakfast.
Am I weird now? LOL

I brush my teeth in the early morning to sweep away the Germs..
I brush before taking breakfasts and that is all for one day.
If u say that u have to brush after every meals, then u have to carry your tooth brush and tooth paste to your office, so that u can brush after ur meals , that would be a weird thing after all ..
During night hours, we don't talk, we just sleep and we breathe using nose and lots of Germs gets stored inside the mouth , so brushing is necessary and moreover in the early morning we need to freshen our mouth so this Brushing is important.

Yes, we should all brush our teeth at least 3 times a day especially after meals. The problem is that who carries around a toothbrush with them to do so? It is very difficult, but we should all do it. Also flossing has been known to reduce the risk of heart disease! Who would have guessed that the two were linked? If you can't brush on the go, I suggest buying some of the new "Wisp"s by Colgate. They help a little to combat plaque and help with after-meal bad breath. They're small enough to be able to fit in your pocket and are disposable.
