Going to one country and having a look at the next door country

I traveled to Singapore after I had been in Australia. Looking at a map I decided to travel to its next door countries Indonesia and Malaysia. If a traveler goes to India he might be able to pop up to Nepal to see that as well. If a traveler goes to France she might enjoy seeing some of Germany as well. Some people think the air fares can be expensive and so seeing two countries on the same trip is an excellent way to see more during a lifetime. Have you ever been to two countries or more on the one trip? Can you think of a good combination?

Sadly I have just been to a foreign counry, Germany. I have never dreamed of traveling around so many countries, as for me it is almost important thing because I don't have money! I am just a student and my family is not rich......But I really want to experence the foreign culture and sightseeing, especially that of Europe, which also has a long history and amazing natural view!

Good luck with the studies that you are concentrating on right now. In the future you might get more money and be able to travel to lots of different countries. I really like Germany and on one trip I loved combining Bavaria with Austria.

I hope that you will visit beautiful Singapore and be able to see Malaysia and Thailand on the same trip. Maybe you could fly to Hong Kong on your way home. Good luck.

Last year my husband and I visited Lithuania and Latvia. At first we caught a train from Denmark to Hamborg in Germany and then we went by bus from Hamborg to Vilnius in Lithuania. We spent some days in Vilnius and one day we went on a day trip to Kaunas (also in Lithuania) Then we caught a bus from Vilnius to Riga in Latvia. While we where there we visited a small town in Latvia called Sigulda. Afterwards we went back to Vilnius, went by bus from Vilnius to Hamborg and by train from Hamborg to Denmark. It was nice to be able to visit both countries at the same time and I am happy we choose that combination. Next time we have talked about visiting England, Wales, Scotland and Ireland. I have been to London a couple of times, and I lived in Scotland for a while, but there are many other places that I would also like to visit, and I look forward to showing my husband my favourite places in Scotland. We have also talked about combining the Netherlands, Belgium and Luxenbourg. I have been there before, but I wasn't very old at that time and I would like to visit those countries again.

Well, when I was in the USA, I travelled by car and bus right across the country from San Francisco to New York. We chose the north route which also meant that we could drive into Canada for a short while. This was awesome and so easy to do. I also travelled into Scotland and Wales while I was in England. We rented a car in London and drove up to Edinburgh, Loch Ness, across to Glencoe and then down through Glasgow and back into England and Liverpool. We then entered Wales briefly before visiting Stonehenge and Windsor and returning to London. It was strange being able to drive into different countries seeing as you have to fly or take a ship to be able to visit different countries here. Going into the different countries in the UK felt just like going from state to state here.

It was a long journey between San Francisco and New York and it was great that you took the northern route and were able to visit some of Canada on the way. It was superb that you had the confidence to hire a car and drive around England, Wales and Scotland. I did my degree in North Wales and to me it felt like a different country. In the States I have been to California and Hawaii.

In 2007, I went to Australia to visit some friends (Adelaide and Wollongong) and then I went on to visit another friend in New Zealand. Flying half around the world made more sense when I went to two countries :-) When I went to a conference in Japan in 2004 I visited Bangkok on the way back, met up with a friend there and stayed at her place in Singapore for a week afterwards. It didn't cost much to travel from Japan to Bangkok to Singapore, so it didn't get much more expensieve. In Europe, I've gone to one country only on most of my travels. Unless of course you count going to Scotland and England on the same trip as going to two countries :-) I went to Sweden and Finland at the same trip in 2003, and then of course there's interrailing. One the longest trip I did, back in 1997, we "did" Copenhagen, France, Spain and England, then took a ferry to Sweden and the train up. Quite entertaining really, I've been thinking about going out again lately. I think that the further away I travel, the more likely it would be that I'd go to more than one country. Or at least see more of the country than just the one place.

Thanks for your excellent response. I am very pleased to hear in 2007 you were able to visit both your friends in Australia and your friend in New Zealand. It was lovely for you to meet up with your friend in Bangkok and then stay in her place in Singapore on your way home from the conference you went to in Japan.
