I've been paid by mturk once already and about to get paid again when I do a few more hits. So they are legit. As for how they pay you, I live in the US and the option they give me is to pay me through my bank account or by Amazon Gift Cards, which they transfer it through your Amazon account instead of receiving it through your mail or email.
If you live in India, you can receive a bank check in Indian Rupees or by Amazon Gift Cards.
Other countries can only transfer their earnings as Amazon Gift Cards.

Yes you do. Also you have to provide your birth date, passport number, Electrol Photo Identity Card (EPIC) number or Permanent Account Number (PAN) and a scan copy of your passport, EPIC or PAN card is required in order to receive payment by check. It takes 14 days to verify and once it's verify, the check will be mailed to you within 6 weeks.

I live in the US and I have been paid by Mturk twice. I wait for a larger amount before I do payout though. As for other countries I have heard that if you can't get payment then you can earn Amazon gift certificates. Still I feel that works if you order online, since Amazon has so much you can get from them now.
Have you sent a support question on this to see what they say? That is what I would do if I didn't understand the TOS.

I won't own a credit card, to me the cost way to much. If I don't have the money I don't get it.
I have had success ordering from Amazon for the past few years when I have ordered, new or used products. I haven't used gift certificates with them yet, my daughter has though and hasn't had trouble with them either.
Hope that helps you.
