Things are getting a little boring so I thought I would post a trick question. Which is more... a pound of lead or a pound of gold? There are actually two right answers to this question. Do you know what they are?

All I can say is they have they same weight. There's nothing to compare because both items are are weight in the same number of pounds. The only difference though is that they are different items. It's just like comparing a kilo of cotton to a kilo of pebbles.

Is a pound really and pound? A kilo is truly a kilo.

All things are not always alike, and simplest comparison is not necessarily the correct answer. Context really does define the word.

hehehe... well, that is if you put the word pound in a different context.

Which weighs more? They are the same. Which is worth more? Gold. Which is denser? I believe that is lead. Which is worth more when it comes to protecting yourself from radiation? Lead. There are hundreds of possible answers when you just ask "which is more?"

True there could be 100's of answers but most of them are pretty well known. I am looking for that one technicality that is fairly well known but overlooked so far. Gold for radiation protection? That is great idea and one that I have not thought about. Which would be better? I will have to look that up and see. Gold does have more density than lead so I wonder if it would work better. If so,... all the more reason to dig!! I am enjoying all the answers with near sadistic glee, I will probably be tarred and feathered over the last answer I am looking for

I'm pretty sure I recall an obscure philosophical concept that states that lead is more simply because it comes first in your question. Of course, I can't remember the details, and am too lazy to look it up, so I await your revelation of the one, true, frustrating answer. :p

Hmmm...guess I was wrong about density.

I think the answers have been given, unless you asked the wrong question.

Well, if I remember correctly, the correct answer depends on whether we're going by weight or volume. By weight, they're exactly the same. 1 pound each. If we go by volume, I believe that there would be more gold -- if I remember correctly, gold is lighter than lead, so it would take more of it to make a pound.

See what happens when I am late responding to a discussions...the answer was already given. Good topic, I like ones that make you think a while about it. I wouldn't have guess the mass and density anyways...however, it does make sense when you think about it.

there are more than two. ok neither weighs more obviously. i think the gold will take up more space. the gold is worth more. etc etc

Well yes there are more than two right answers I am looking for a couple of answers in specific. Obviously gold is worth way more than lead that is too well known. Actually, the gold would take up less space because it is denser than lead and would take less of it to weigh a pound. I am still looking for the second answer, ...it is a trick question mind you so put on your thinking caps.

humph. putting on thinking caps wouldn't help. it does with REAL riddles but here you either have to already know a bit of trivia about gold or decide to cheat and go look things up. i spent whole seconds of my life trying to puzzle this one out. i hope you are ashamed of yourself.

If you mean which weighs more, they both weigh the same, 1 pound. Which costs more? The gold. Which has more mass? Lead. Which has more density? Gold. "Which is more..." is not a very specific question.

A specific question would require a specific answer. There are two correct answers for this quesiton. You are correct about the mass and density.
