Having a relationship with someone in another country.

October 12, 2010 3:25am CST
So many people meet over the internet, only to find that they can get really close to someone and feelings start to develop. Then the problems hit home. The fact that they live in different countries, then the fact that neither of them has money and so to travel to see them would be practically impossible. How would you deal with something like this? I mean you can have strong feelings and want something you may never get. But you also have to wonder if what everything they are saying to you is true. There are some genuine people out there, yet there are those who want to take advantage of you. Is it best to just try and meet someone online that atleast lives in the same country as you? Or will you still be happy enopugh to look outside your country? Not always about looking for this, it may just be something that can just develop.

funny but i was also thinking of this one. i used to have a friend, years back before i had a family. we both got close online. he is not from my country as well, he was from a different country with different cultures and perspective. yet there was something in him that i loved. yes love, i found myself falling in loved with him before. But then the problem do start when u really want someone yet you know u cannot have him because he is far and i do not have the means to be able to go there..and he also cannot visit me here. so even tho i do not want to, i ended things between us. it was weird and also painful because i can sense and feel that he was sincere...and even till now i am wondering how he is... but then i moved on and have a fmily on my own. but i also believe in Serendipity.. one can never tell what the future holds. but also never trust anyone you meet online it jst happen i met him.

True, you never know what could have been. I guess you may want to do all you can to meet, especially if you get so close to one another but the distance and money plays a big part in things. Serendipity, have you ever seen the film? i loved it. If it's meant to be then it's meant to be.

Wow, that's definitely a tough one. I mean it's practically impossible, I think. If your oceans apart how can to make that one-on-one time to make a relationship secure and worthwhile? I mean sure emails, IMing, and telephone calls are staples of a relationship, but no contact is a little touchy. My personal opinion is I don't think I'd ever possibly fathom it.

Exactly. I mean the root word is relation isn't it? It's tough but in the long run, I don't think it will last that long.

It couldn't really work, yes you can use the computer or telephone them, but that does not compare to actually being in front of them and being able to hold them, touch them, kiss them, eetc. Unless one of you is willing to move then surely it won't work?

I would never date someone from another country. I dont even talk to anyone privately that lives outside the united states. I have nothing really to talk to them about. I usually only chat with people who live locally and that cuts down on me meeting any crazy strangers. Long distance relationships are very hard and living in different countries is to much work unless your married to them then it might be worth it.

it depends on the type of the relationship. i have more than 10 foreign friends with whom i chat a lot and now we are more closer than before. you will be able to find out the reality, when you come too close to them. take care.

I guess it is great to have them as friends, and if you were to get closer to one and develop feelings then it is hard as they are in a different country, especially if both of you have no money as the chances of meeting up are certainly slim. Shame that the right person may be out there but in another country and the distance and money keeps you apart

We should be very careful before making friendship or develop the feeling with the person one who is in different country. He/she may lie that they are in different countries but they live in same places. If we get any feeling with the chatting person, we should collect his personal, family details. Also, we have to confirm whether he/she is lying or not.

Very true, it is really hard to know if someone is telling the truth or not. That is one of the problems when online as many people will lie.

Different countries can have different cultures. Communicating with someone from a different country can give you different views on life. You can begin beautiful relationship with someone and be enlightened to the world.

very true, a way of seeing another persons lifestyle, the fact that you could be so different could be a good thing.

whoever you meet online, don't trust fully unless you know him and his family really well. do not disclose info that is too personal. i met a foreign guy online before but it wasn't my intention though to find one. was just out there learning another language. we hit it off and was an item for almost a year but even during those times that we had extreme feelings for each other, i really held back because i do not really know how this person is for real. but to be fair, we were really a couple.i exert effort to constantly communicate with him and be the best partner (virtually) that i can be. but even if this is so, i haven't given him my real email add, not even my phone number or my address.the bad part about meeting your partner online, if it becomes too long before you meet personally, it becomes boring. you just never know what's going to happen. there's nothing wrong with being cautious nowadays.

true, it is a question of how when where you will meet. I guess though the same in a way with a stranger you may meet in your local pub, you don't know anything about them but atleast they are local and you can see them more and learn more about them.
