Had an accident and could not dance anymore

I studied ballet since I was three. I even remembered my mother telling people that I learned to dance first before I could learn reading. I've been dancing since the time I could remember.
Three years ago (that was summer), while teaching a dance routine, I made a mistake upon landing from a turn-jete. I dropped on the floor and felt that my left leg is numb. My knee swelled but after an x-ray, they found nothing wrong... but when I went back to dancing, I noticed that I could no longer perform almost all of my routines because my left knee sometimes locked or seems to dislocate.
The doctor said that I had a stretched ligament. He explained that my situation is not serious but if I decide not to have a surgery, I won't be able to dance again.
My family is not wealthy. I have a lot of things to pay so having the luxury to dance well is not my priority. I just missed dancing... a lot!

wew.. for me as a jabbawockeez member.. haha joke.. well i am a also a dancer but not ballet, well as a dancer i having that situation of couldn't dance anymore because of your left leg. the feeling of that is very disappointing.. specially when your passion is dancing right? so for me. you also can be a part of a dancer or a manager someday when you grow up or teaching your co-ballet dancers and inspiring them to continue their being ballet dancer right?? so go kid cheer up! its hard to accept that you cant dance anymore but we don't know where your destiny will bring you in the future right? hehe.. that's all.. take care!! :D dont stop dreaming your dreams.

You almost got me with the jabbawockeez thing... I adore them so much!!!
Anyway, for now I trained some students to dance but what I do is I simply instruct to them the details of the routine without actually dancing.

I dont know what i would do if i couldn't dance anymore. I started learing Ballet before i could read and barely even walk. I was at the age of 2 and started learning all of that. I can't beleive you landing weird from a turn-jete so not common but things happen in life.
I hope you do get a surgery soon and can start dancing again. Were i life many places dont offer classes at the age i am and stop at the age of 18 so now it is hard to even remember things and to even do things but just for me to dance is important as i love it very much and would do anything to teach a class.

I actually made the greatest crime in dancing... I did not do warm-up stretching when I made the tour jete... a lesson that all dancers should always remember

That is sad indeed friend. But remember that faith gives us a lot of miracles and perhaps if you did your best to try to challenge yourself there could be a miracle for you too.
Were you given a time frame as to how long you should get the operation else it would be rendered useless?

sorry to hear you had an accident, since you love dancing so much, don't give up. I used to see a disabled person dancing with only one leg, as your doctoer said your situation is not serious, I belive you will recover soon after the surgery and the hard time will pass. BEST WISHES TO YOU!

Sorry to hear that my friend. Even though that is not important I know the feeling of missing it. Maybe your kid can do it for you. Ballet is a big advantage when you learn that especially if you are a kid, because I believe you are going to bring the flexibility even if you are already an adult. I remember my classmate who is into ballet even the fact that she is being fat or being so big she can still do the 180 degrees. So I realize there is a big advantage for flexibility.

Yup, I love and miss the feeling of being admired because of my flexibility... something that i can never do anymore. I really wish I can find enough money to cure my left knee so I can return to dancing.

Hi,
Sorry to hear that you can't dance well now because of your knee problem.
SInce your family financial condition is not that good, then at this
moment, you may have to set aside your interest in dancing or if your relative
able to help your family up in term of financial problem, then you can
always go for surgery.
I love to see ballet show,too bad I don't have a daughter,or else I will
get her to learn ballet too.

Hi kyss. That was sad. :( I think dancing is your passion since you said that you learned dancing even before you learned reading. I really hope your knee can be fix soon. God is good. If ever that time comes and you'll be able to dance again, don't forget to share it to us okay? It'll help us relieve the pain and sadness we're sharing with you right now. Take care always kyss.

It sounds like dancing made you really happy. I am sorry that that happened to you. I guess you have already weighed out what is more important to you, now all you need, is to find another hobby that made you as happy as dancing did.

Hi Kyss, That is really said and I feel sorry for you. My dream when I was a child is to learn ballet dance but because we could not afford it, so I just forgot it. My family is also not wealth. But until today, that dream is actually still with me even though I'm not a teenage anymore. Sometimes I would imagine if I was a kid again and took the dance lesson, I would be very happy. Now I end up working in the hotel haha!
I can understand when you want to put your family first before the dance, and I hope you left knee won't become worse even if you don't have the surgery.
Good luck and have a nice day
