Today most of my evening (and my whole country´s evening) has been centered in the news about the rescue of the miners. This is my last post at mylot for some hours. I´ll be hooked to the TV until the last brave man comes out.
Let us hope, pray, send positive energy, whatever you believe in, so that everything works out well.
I believe in the strenght of collective prayer, whatever faith or even if it´s just a wish from the heart. Please friends: let´s help with that now.
Thank you.

It happened 10 years ago and all 33 miners were saved. They even made a movie of it in 2015 with Antonio Banderas in it. I read again the post and the answers and was moved to tears again.

I´m on a coffee break after the first miner was rescued safelly. It was moving, everyone crying including myself. It takes 15 minutes to bring each miner from the bottom of the mine. And more minutes to take the sort of elevator down.
This is what I call a miracle.

gOOD MORNING mARG, we got to watch a miracle on tv that's for sure. I'm like u i was surprised they were all as well looking as they were. What strong men they must be to have survived such an horrible ordeal. I kept my tv on all day yesterday , something i don't usually do. All these people who own mines SHOULD BE MADE TO MAKE THEM SAFER!! U have a good day. hugs.

Hi Jo,
I´m SO happy all is over!
We have very good safety measures in mining as it´s one of our main exports. But everywhere there are rascals that bypass them. Nature doesn´t help either because we have earthquakes every day. Not the ones that make news, but still they do damage. I feel that, although what we saw was a technological miracle, the most important part happened at the begining. Everyone that had power gave up on the miners. But their families did not, camped there in a desert at high altitude and said they would not move until they were taken out. We all expected bodies, not people. The first contact was made after 17 days. THAT was atrue miracle. It required faith, inner strenght enough to bend the normal reasoning of authorities that only think in terms of money. Those families and those miners ar the true heroes.
HUG!!!

I cried like a baby when the first miner came out, Jo. I also stayed up most of the night watching. In fact I fell asleep with the TV on.
I am so happy they seem to be all in such a good shape too. And all their medical and dental problems will be taken care of at no cost for them. I do hope they also find work for them later. The mine (private) has a lawsuit and will be closed for some time. And, I suppose, a lot of safety measures will have to be implemented before it is opened again.

I agree that it has all been a miracle. A miracle they were found alive, a miracle that they had the strenght to live with no contact with the world for 17 days, a miracle they reached him and now this technological miracle of getting them out. And they look perfectly healthy.

Hello marguicha,
I agree with one of the people who spoke there, i think it was the wife of the miner or the miner itself. saying that the government should make a drastic measures of changes in terms of the livelihood of the people and not always mining., they cannot be miners forever, or it not at least give them some other jobs or govt. other investments more jobs to other people in chile and not just mining. i admit going underground with not much steel on the walls and ceilings is dangerous

Miners earn a lot more in my country than most other workers. Noone "makes" them choose their jobs. And in Chile there are enough jobs as to be able to absorb immigrants from sevral countries who come to seek better futures. We don´t ask green cards or such things. We have here bluecollar workers and professionals of many countries.
But miners earn a lot more because it´s a risky work. There are laws and safety measures but accidents happen. In my country earthquakes occur often and that does not help either. Don´t imagine that miners are slaves because they aren´t.
As mining is one of the main products we export, miners are paid several times as do other workers. We have copper and need that to trade for other goods. Such is economy in all the world.
I think these miners had such an inner strenght and were so brave because they are free men with decent if not rich lives. I just saw a miner come out, one of the eldest ones. He had been a professional soccer player when young and now he worked at the mine with a specialiced machine. When he was notworking there, he worked as taxidriver. He needed the money to pay for the college of his two girls. In other countries you have to be a professional if you want your children to be one.
These miners were out of this world.I admire them. But please don´t judge the way they live or what our laws and safety measures say until you read them.

therefore, more safety features should be added. it ain't joke being burried more than 700 meters above step on land. what more if there's an Earth-Quake.
anyways, congratulations for a very fine successful rescue

That's the first good news I've seen for today. That's really great. Being stuck in a cave is very very disturbing, we had a cave tour once and the tour guide closed the lights to show us how dangerous and scary it is getting stuck inside a cave. These guys must be really afraid right now. I hope their suffering ends soon.

Just listening at the news. They said that every 7th person on the earth are following the rescue. It was touching to see the families and others who were there waiting. And it must be a tremendous relief for the men who were trapped for so long time.
At the moment it seems that 12 have come up and it looks good so far.

It seems that this endurance and this kind of rescue is umprecedented so it´s no wonder so many people are aware of this. In these moments I feel proud to be a chilean. The rescue was not only done by the government. The miner´s family´s, with no political power at all, camped near the mine from the first and said they wouldnot leave until their loved ones were taken out.
Fot such a long time we thought that they would bring out bodies. If... The had no contact with the outside world for 17 days. I feel this is more than a miracle. Not only they survived, but they are sane and sound.
As I´m writing, more than half have been rescued.

They are all out now as of the other day and I must say I was amazed at how clean and healthy they all looked after their 69 day ordeal underground. How can this be possible I wonder?
I was deeply stirred at the end when all the men raised their voices to sing the Chilean National Anthem and they sang with passion and sincerity that is not so evident in my country. I was very much in tears.

I want to thank you and so many people around the world that were with us in these moments. I believe in colective prayers, no matter what religion. When people of good will ask for something, miracles happen. This was more a miracle than a sign of a good technology.

Viva Chili! For a mission accomplished! The whole world has rejoiced as we see on TV the last miners being taken out from the ground. Thanks God that they were all safely taken out from the ground. This was really a great job and would be plastered in the world history.

The greatest job was made by the miners who did not lose hope and faith in 17 days with no contact with the outside (and knowing that usually after that time people stop searches), and their family who made a camp in the extreme climatic conditions of the desert and said they were not moving until their loved ones were found.
The rest is a technological miracle but we have grown acostumed to that lately. What we have forgotten is how things can be done with only inner strenght. I am remembering now about people that did great things with just that. Rev. King, Mother Theresa and so many others did not have power yet they did miracles.

They have taken out over half of them. They are in a better shape than we would expect. Still they will have medical and dental checkups for 2 days and then all the medical and dental problems they have will be take care of.

That's such wonderful news!
I can't even begin to imagine what all these men must have endured, 'hard' doesn't even begin to describe it. But I'm so glad that, despite all this, they're finally going to be rescued. I hope everything turns out well!

It is turning out well. I´m SO happy!!! Those people are out of this world: they come out smiling, hugging their loved ones, full of inner strenght. I cqan´t imagine how they endured the first 17 days when they didn´t even know if someone was still searching for them.

I have just watched the news, and it said there are still 17 Chilean miners that has to be . This miners really have a strong faith in God. They are really blessed for they're able to survive the nights and days. All of them are determined to live and to be with their families. I'll pray for them.

This had been truly a miracle. The rescue can be called an example of technology but I find it incredible that they were able to survive sane and sound for 17 days without any contact from the outside nor any hope that anyone was still looking for them.

I am watching the rescue as I am My Lotting in my lounge room. So far I have seen three men being rescued. At the moment the capsule appears stuck, I hope it is not a serious problem. It is wonderful to see these men alive and hopefully well. They are getting on with the rescue now and everybody is celebrating. Wonderful news, I am praying they will all be out in good time. There is nothing more to celebrate than what is unfolding right before my eyes today!

I stayed up almost all night watching, but this will go on all gay. The men seem in a good physical and psychological shape but it seems they will have mayor teeth problems due to the humuduty down at the mine. All will be taken care at no cost for them and as best as possible.
I cried and celebrated by myself at the same time. Authorities come and go in every country but this is an inner strenght beyond words. I can´t imagine how they kept going the 17 days they were with not a single thought of ever being rescued.

They have rescued over half of them until now. Mines sometimes cave in. It is not an easy job, specially in a country where we have earthquakes all the time.

Things like this make me feel so happy to be a human being. For the last two months, I have been sending thoughts and prayers to those miners, also giving thanks for their safety. I think that the Chilean government showed the world how to take care of their own people. The president, Sebastian Pinera's personal efforts to get these miners out are valiant and should serve as an example to other world leaders.
I hope that they will be well on their way to recover quickly, and that they can move on with their lives.
I wish I had a Chilean friend to hug. At any rate, I am very very happy for Chile and for all Chileans around the globe!

You can give me a virtual hug: I´m chilean. As for the rest, it was not only the goverrnment who made that possible. The miners families never lost hope and never let the government forget they should have to go on trying. This was triggered by a handfull of people with no apparent power and by the solidarity we have learnt to display in tough moments as we are a country where earthquakes destroy a lot every tew years. Puñera just had to follow lead. He did it well though.

indeed the story of the chilean miners trapped underground for 69 days has rivetted the world. This is their moment. So many things have come to past since they were trapped and definitely a relief of sigh and gratitude for the victim, his family and friends.
We now have to deal with the psychologial part for those who were trapped in this nightmare. People living in such close proximity to each other will have gone through alot together.
