I was in a chatroom the other night and a guy send me a message and asked where I was from. After telling him,he told me that he was from Nigeria. I made the remark,"Nigeria, home of the internet scam". He didn't even message me back! I think he was about to try and scam me being that we were in a Small Business chatroom.

Just to be clear not all Nigerians are scammers it is just a fact that the majority of email and online scams originate from there but remember they can come from anywhere in the world. Just keep your wits about you and you will be safe, if it sounds too good to be true it usually is and if money has to change hands that speaks volumes. Also stay away from western Union, it is the scammers tool of choice.

Hi Zone, I do agree that all of them are not scammers. But I had the feeling that he was going to try and get me because of the type of chatroom we were in. Now this particular one, I do believe,is a scammer.

Yeah, I have also heard from many people that specially countries in Africa do lots of scams due to their poor economy. But not everyone is a fraud we should also keep that in my mind. Sometimes even inocent people get the same treatment because of these Fraud ones. Anyways I wish that no one get cheated by anyone and honest people also get their full respect.

Be under no illusion Nigerian 419 scams have nothing to do with a poor economy or any other such reasons that they may preach. These scams are run by highly organised criminal gangs and they are far from poor. These guys are nothing more than criminals and should be treated as such.

I agree that not all nigerians are scammers, but since there are many stories of it, it wouldn't hurt to be more careful. A good rule to remember is to ever reveal your personal information. And of course if something sounds to good to be true, then it probably is.

i agree with you ,a few weeks ago i got an email from nigeria that say he wanted to buy my laptop that i sell online,i ask about it here in mylot and my friend answering it that most email from nigeria is fraud,i know that this must be a scam. And those nigerian sent me a fake paypal payment, his fake payment can easily be identified because it was so different than real paypal email.
So i think i have to blacklist all about nigeria i found on the internet.
