This is inspired by Saphy's discussion - why not invent a toothbrushing gadget?

I am not good in English so I am not sure I can express it as well as some of you could. But the thought has occurred and it is definitely a better thought than what is going on in Bin Laden's mind as of now. So I thought I'd share it with you all. Imagine chewing some gum (lots of it) and spreading it on both side of your teeth. Now you have a kind of mould with a cavity in between. A ceramic tool can be developed like that for both upper jaw and lower jaw, with nanosized brushes built in and there can be something that can switch it on and off (If I were good in electricals and electronics - I wouldnt be here). I think something like that could be designed. Of course, each person would require a custom made brush - but it would last the lifetime, and imagine how much we could save on those dentists. Anybody has a better idea - please share.

For switching on and off , u can use a NE 555 timer . Timer circuit is easy to design and implement and for the programming to work we can use DSP or VLSI, so we could completely avoid the invasion of Computer guys inside. I think this idea has been already brought up .. I wish i could enlighten this to IEEE !!!! Sorry, i couldn't do this vannie !!!!

Really - the idea is already there? I didnt know that - it just occured to me in loo. Anyway - I thought we have hair dryers sending hot hair with force, why cant be have some water coming with force on teeth (well mixed with toothpaste of course, or we could use the usual brush to apply the toothpaste, and then place this silly contraption in the mouth so that the force of water would run those brushes very fast and remove any food particles. Effectively, it would be cleaner than what we get with our half asleep eyes in mornings and nights. Just a thought. And why would you want to enlighten this to IEEE? I didnt steal the idea!

No body will beleive English is not your own language, that much command you have over it. You have come up with a great idea.I think if you think a little deeper, you can invent that tooth brushing device yourself. Who knows, you may get the Nobel prize for it? Mel will get an Oscar for best acting 2010.

Thank goodness you are not a dentist, Vannie. Binnie would probably make sure that he gets hold of your idea first. You know how feisty he is and he would use it for something else, though. Not too shabby thinking on your part. Damn, i hate to admit that. TATA.

Hi vandana, your English is good no doubt on it, i too compare my English sometimes. But i feel it is hard to become perfect in English. I know you people are struggling to know what i am writing/discussing. But thanks for all your cooperation really. One way i am learning here through you people Good English but not victoriously yet. Why this Bin Laden is hear I hope in future that tooth brushing gadgets also will available. But chewing gum ? is it good to chew all the time? i will be observing almost all cricketers and celebrities will be chewing, i don't know why? Yeah i too feel every one will have different shape of tooth and they require according their tooth shape and adjustable brush. It should be according to the age wise like children/middle age/old age... like that.

I think we need to come up with a bacteria that eats the bad stuff and doesn't hurt us to swallow. Swish it around in our mouths to eat the food bits and bad bacteria and then die in the stomach...

actually, that would probably be ME! but most people it wouldn't bother so it would be a viable technology... after all, they do have oil eating bacteria now

You mean - we need to bio-engineer a bacteria? Interesting - but we would never know what other harm such thing could do to humans. After all - even though we all qualify as humans, each one of us has a different set of genes with different composition. What may seem alright for me, may be terribly toxic for another person.

Oh I am also struggling with my English vocabulary sometimes and you know; I am rushing every time here except for lunch time because I am already free. I like this topic, toothbrush, or something like built-in mini toothbrush? Wow, that can save money, of course and time! Or do we need to use toothpaste? If we do not to use toothpaste, then big saving! How much do we allocate for toothpaste each month? And about the time, you do not need to brush your teeth after or before eating! You can clean you teeth even in the way to work or something.

Exactly Prime. You could switch on that contraption in your mouth and no traffic policeman is going to book you for it - unlike the mobile phones. That may be just possible. :)

vandy your English is excellent and a great discussion. wow that would really e so neat. A ceraminic tool with nanosized brushes this probably could be done but of course I am no scientist. but it does sound like so something that would really work. And for people like me who are allergic to that harsh violent imitation spearmint crap they put into toothpaste it would be really fantastic. No burning stinging toothpaste anymore but a futuristic tooth cleaning device. I think its a great idea myself.

hello vandana, Good for us,we can save time and money buying toothbrush 12x a year, plus another savings with dental cleaning once a year. Too bad for the dentists it broke their business and profession (hunt the chewing gum manufacturer and bomb it ) Less time and effort for those who brush their teeth upon waking up and eat their breakfast and leaves home without brushing their teeth once more Hello again vannie...

Aha! So this was it, huh, Vandy.:) I don't think this will work for me. I am clumsy with gadgets and I am not confident brushing my teeth with other things other than my old toothbrush maneuvered by my hands. How did you come up with this idea, dear? This could be a brilliant one especially for the new generations.

It wouldnt? All you'd have to do is to open you mouth and bite at it for a few seconds. :) The controls would be in your hand. I have not yet finalized anything. But I am planning to come up with some design. Web earn is promising me some monies. :) Who wouldnt want some. :)

What you want has been already invented! Cleaning and disinfecting teeth has never been easier. But only for dentures. Sorry, no marks for original thinking. It is called cast cleaning for dentures. Dentures get yellow in course of time and need to be disinfected for health and and bleached for good appearance. The dentures are simply coated with a mild and medically approved fluid which disinfects and bleaches the chompers. There are actually bits of ceramic material which penetrate the age coating and remove it when brushed. Washed thoroughly and the teeth will equal a toothpaste models in whiteness and luster. For Live teeth in Live persons, I wanted to do it, but, If my teeth were to be mechanically cleaned with electrical devices agitating nano sized brushes, with pressure just enough to clean the debris of food, but not enough to actually wear out teeth, would be a huge R&D job. I am sort of busy now making a living. I however solemnly promise that this task will be taken up and done if posted in the tasks section with a billion trillion $ remuneration. How to handle missing teeth, spaces in between teeth, loose teeth, exposed roots of teeth and what ever other variables that may crop up, will cost a zillion $....... each. If you feel the cost is high, I will with a very large heart offer a cash back discount of 0.01 $ on each of these, only if you surrender all patent and manufacturing rights to me. Since you drive such a hard bargain, I will give you the prototypes models free! Is it a deal? Happy Dussera Festival.

Its a deal - provided I really succeed in this one webearn. :) I have really been mulling over it. Of course, we could spend hours discussing it with pictures, thinking why it would be feasible, and why it wouldnt. It would be interesting indeed. I will get back to this shortly hopefully with some drawings of what went through my mind. :) (please remember - I aint a great artist). :)

I think the innovative thought is very good. I think there are number of things happening all over the world. But I think any invention comes when it is needed. It could come I think. But that may be too costly at this level. I think this is the reason that’s why this invention is not yet come into existence.
