What is your choice. Would you let your parents decide?

As a grade 8 teacher i am constantly challenging my students to choose their own path. Today I asked them what they'd like to do once they have completed their studies here. i also asked that they give me three reasons for their choice.
What I found interesting was the fact that many of them chose their parents influence as their reason for their particular choice, others hadn't seriously thought about their chosen profession beyond the fact that the salaries were attractive or they simply liked it without know why or the inner workings.
So mylotters, I ask you, who chose your profession? Are you happy with it?

I kind of wandered into it but I have done many things, including being a farmworker and a politician!

well at least it proves you gave yourself the option of exploring and didn't put any restrictions out there. Are you happy with your present choice?

I stumbled on mine but I still dont always think all that I do fits me perfectly. When I was growing up we didn't have computers either at home or school so I was an adult when i touched on for the first time and a new world opened up to me. Today i am a computer Scientist. I am one of those people who you can lock in a room with a computer and just push food under the door ever so often an I'd say i was in heaven.
Alas it does not always go that well since the teaching of Computer Science is my full time job and my Computer Programming and such is done on a part-time basis. My choice of teaching was both my parents choice and some faith since jobs are hard to come by in my country. So i do some bidding online for computer projects and sometimes I get to do some programming and other things that I love.

ultimately? yourself choose. that we know, but I think and feel speaking from my point of view. everybody surrounding that person that he/she admires/look-up-to has an effect on what that person will do.

Well I cant help but agree that everyone around us will in someway influence our choices, however with all that we see hear and feel we still need to assimilate and carve out our own little niche so we may be comfortable.
