Hello people, Recently I was thinking about children and computers in 21st century.I always thought that computers are so good things for our children but with time I started to change my mind.Yes computers have a lot of things that helps for children to study not talking about internet. But I started to reading in internet that more and more children use computer not for just study or find information in internet but for games and other things which is for grown ups:) More and more I hear about children who goes to hospital for example playing long time with computers because they cant move from them after that.Soon it will be like a narcotic to them. And I think now at the moment I can find more minuses than pluses. So I would like to know your opinion about it?For example how long would be normal time to sit children near it?Or what kind of things they could do not just playing for 12 hours in a row?Is there a way to protect a child from becoming a gamer for all life?Feel free to say your opinion and suggestions. Thanks!

I believe that children spend way too much time on the computer and that as long as they are watched on the computer, that it is okay for them to use, from time to time. I don't think children should be unsupervised or be on the computer for hours on end. I think when parents do that, not only are they not caring what their kids are looking at, but also not caring that it can hurt their eyes and make alot of problems we probably are'nt even aware of yet. I think computers are awesome in moderation.

Computers have become part of public life today, not only adults but also for children. Besides having the benefits, the computer can also give a negative impact. Of course, much needed awareness of parents and educators to prevent children negatively affected from the computer. Actually, fear of negative impacts computer need not haunt the parents. Originally we as parents can provide direction and guidance regarding the proper use of computers to our children, these impacts can be minimized.

You're right. My nephew spendiing time more in computer games than studying. I set rules of how much time he could use computers or otherwise he would not even use it for surfing of assignments. Because sometimes, they making it an alibi that he's gonna make a research for his assignment, but I caught him just playing online. His mother is complaining that he usually sleep late because of that computer. We made a connivance that I will take the computer with me if he would not follow the set rules in using it. So far, it does help. But we don't know until when. Computer does help students in most of the time, but it also does harm if using it would not be appropriatly managed.

Hi there kamatozas. Computers really don't harm the children, it's just a matter of control and how they balance their times and still prioritise studies and family over fun in the internet. Yes computers, especially games, are addicting which is why we will be needed to supervise them to regulate their gaming hours and how much time they spend for it. I have one friend here who is only able to use the computer fully on Fridays to Sundays, and on other days when it is only needed, and the children never complained. They've had good grades in school, enough quality time for the family and still get to have fun with their computers.

I totally think so, I have grown up using a computer from when I was 14 and I have been getting eye problems, so definitely I have a son now, and I will not let him use it when he's old enough, maybe to research something, but no playing games on it for 12 hours!! lol

I don't believe that computers harm our children. They have to understand what computers can do for them and not abuse them. They are an educational tool that could serve them well.

I know that I was definately affected as a child growing up around computers. At first I didn't know much about them then I realised you can play games too so lol I was on like an addict. Now I'm fed up of games usually anyway and am addicted to other things like social networking not facebook though! Hate that. I think if you care about your kid, only let them play as a reward for hard work :)

I think there are advantages and disadvantages about computers especially for children. The proper usage of it should be properly taught to children.

Of course, children become lazy and giving so much attention on their computer to play online games than surfing online to get some idea, to learn that add up on their knowledge. And they can also forget to eat their meals on time. We should give our child a time limitations to use a computer.

I would allow children to play the computer for a set amount of time, perhaps every few days or so, for recreational purposes only. Other than that, i would not allow my kids to spend all day on the computer,as they would need to socialize with their friends.

Well, you're of course right that nowadays children are sitting over the computer for hours and hours..........they forget about everything everything happening in the outside world as the remain immersed in the world of games........Other than games they do chat across many social network sites like Facebook, Orkut, MySpace etc. and as you mentioned also many Adult-Rated sites........According to my opinion some games are quite good while some are not at all........Some games helpful for the children for example the strategy games and they help the children to compete in the Real World........But that doesn't mean that they should sit across the computer all day long.......At least after every 2 hrs of sitting before the computer, every person must have half an hour rest.......During this rest period they should not watch T.V. but only the environment and the green nature because the rays emitted by the monitor screen of computer is really harmful for our eyes........So we must watch the plants as green is soothing for our eyes.........That about that gamer thing you said, if a child wants to be a gamer there is no problem except one that you must be very professional and expert because the world of gaming is really very very competitive and you must be at best of your abilities to get a rank there........That's all I've to say........Hope it helps ya!!!
