Do you push your cuticles back?

When I was young I had this friend whose whole family pushed their cuticles back. I had never seen anyone do this until then which was when I was about 11. I thought it seemed like it would hurt and I didnt understand the point in it. The mother said that if you dont push them back it makes the skin around your nails to tight and causes hang nails. I dont know if its true or not and I dont push my cuticles back that often usually just when I'm bored or standing around waiting in line with nothing to do.
I know some people cut theirs off. Once when I was getting my nails done for my wedding they cut my cuticles off and it hurt because they clipped my skin a few times so there were little cuts on my fingers in the pictures :( Do you leave your cuticles alone or do you push them back or cut them? Whats the reason behind your action?

I do, it is part of a well groomed look, but not as often as I should. I think yes, you could get hangnails if you didn't push them back.

Oh wow this is such an old post. I don't even remember writing this it is so old lol. This was from back in 2010 and you are the first to comment on it. As I was reading what was written I was like that happened to me too. Then I saw my picture and thought someone hacked into my account and posted this. Now I see that it is just an old post that I have wrote. Oh thank you so much for coming and commenting on this I am getting such a good chuckle over this confusion.
