All the while I am using desktop computer. Due to the aging of my desktop, I am planning to buy another set of computer. As what I can understand, laptop computer is much more better than desktop computer. The most advantage of laptop is I can carry along no matter where I go. In terms of maintenance cost, laptop computer will be more costly. For instance, only particular part can be used for particular brand and model of the laptop computer. We should consider about the regular replacement of battery, keypad, graphic card and so on after certain of the lifespan. The exact brand and model of parts must be used for the exact brand and model of the laptop. For desktop, more choices of brand are available and the maintenance cost for sure will be lower. For Netbook, It is not in my consideration at the moment. It's capability is not as good as the laptop. By your experience, is it worth to spend more to own a laptop which is for personal usage only?

I prefer a Desktop computer !! I like to play games and for Gaming purpose i prefer only Desktop in home, when going away i could take a PSP. What do u meant by the maintenance cost in Desktops? U don't have to spend any money for maintenance for desktop computers. Well, if u wanna carry your computer everywhere u go, then u prefer a Laptop. But consider, u have to carry all the accessories of the laptop when you're travelling, the batter charger especially, and u have to look out for the socket outlet to charge the laptop .

I like desktop too. It is more reliable. All of my hardware, software and data are stationed at a fixed place. In my mindset, when I bring all of these components to here and there, they will be easily corrupted, stolen, faulty and so on. Taking care of this mobile machine is very upset.

I think it depends on your budget and your usage. There are now very nice 13 inch notebook that is comparable to netbooks but cost three times the cost of netbooks. Netbooks are nice because of size. The one I bought claims to have 15 hours battery life and I can easily use it for 9 hours without charging. I found a problem logging into a few websites and some of the programs runs a lot slower but overall everything else works. Desktop are great but not portable.

Since the 13 inch netbook is 3 times higher than the cost of the ordinary netbook, the precise selection of netbook for personal usage is still the laptop. How can a 15 hours NEW battery can just be used in 9 hours? It is only the 60 percent of the full capacity. In my expectation, it should be at least 80% of the 15 hours. Will the battery of the laptop be the same or not?

You can probably get 15 hours if you turn off the wireless, bluetooth etc. The netbook I am using is the Asus 1005p. I bought the notebook and netbook in Malaysia. For the notebook the price is approximately RM 4.5k for a ultralite model - Dell Vostro V13 with 3 year warranty and 4G RAM. The netbook is bought came to about RM1.8k because I max out on the RAM (2Gbyte) - most netbook comes with only 1Gbyte RAM and also I added 1 additional year warranty. The Vostro gives me about 2 hours battery life. There is a very nice Acer Aspire TimelineX 4820T which claims to have 12 hour battery life so I expect 8 hours with wifi. This is a 14" model which cost about RM3K. Not too sure how much RAM it comes with but has a 3 year warranty.

I would definitely recommend that you buy the laptop because like you said, you can carry it anywhere you go so it is very convenient. You can always find a laptop whose brand has spare parts in your place and the maintenance cost does not need to be expensive. You just have to ask around and research for brands like that. My family owns two laptops. We bought the first one more than four years ago and the other one which I am using now we bought it two years ago. They are still working very well. So for me, it is definitely good to invest on a laptop. They are not heavy and you can bring it with you anywhere. It can help make your job easier.

Your old laptop never gave you any problem during the past 4 years. It is really a good brand. Is it a popular brand which I can get it in Malaysia too?

I have been using desktop for 15 years, and even when I was away from home for study, I didn't own a laptop. My reason is: a desktop is more stable and my eyes feel more comfortable when looking at desktop's monitor. Nevertheless, I bought a laptop a year ago when I was away from home for two months, as I wanted to use Skype on the Internet to keep in touch with my family instead of spending money on phone bills. Besides daily internetting, I like watching films and playing games on my computer, so I chose a laptop with very high performance quality. It has been a year and I am still quite satisfied with my laptop. It is convenient and I can move to anywhere while I am working on my laptop. I think if I can find another good laptop with decent value, I will probably stay with this choice.

I think it is better to buy a labtop than a netbook if you are going to use it for work, Netbook always comes with a slower speed and the screen is too small for work. If you have a good budget, I will recommend you to buy a higher speed labtop. I believe if you are lucky enough, you no need to do too much of maintenance on your computer, regardless what type of computer you use. If you have a lower budget and only like to use it to surf the net, I would recommend you to buy the netbook.

I think a moderate labtop will do if you are just using it to do some paper work, unless you use it to play games then you might need to consider to buy a high speed labtop with good graphic card that will enable you to run your 3D games faster. A normal labtop will last a few year if you take care of it. And if you are not the type of people that like to follow the fashion trend that whenever Microsoft came out with the new version of Windows, then your labtop can probably last for more than 10 years.

I have the same idea as you. The price for the middle range of laptop is not very much different from the netbook. Do you think the middle range laptop will be fast enough to handle our daily works? Technology will change very fast. In my expectation, the most I can use the laptop comfortably should be within 4 to 5 years.

in my opinion, if you used to desktop and do not need other kind then you can stay with that it. If you need to take your computer to somewhere else, or on the road then of course a laptop is the best choice.sometimes the internet connection has do something with it.streamyx is better for the desktop while broadband may suit with any of those two.

I am using desktop all the while. I get used to the desktop only. Since the first day I used computer, it was desktop or mainframe only. Am I outdated ? Shall I change! Shall I get use to the mobility? Change may not be good. Let me survey and judge.

Hi, For me, I will choose either laptop or netbook, it is more convenience as you can carry them all the time when you need it. as for desktop,it will stick at home and not possible for you to carry out when you really need a computer when you are out. Of course, laptop can be expensive too if you are getting those new model and have more advanced technology. Lately, my husband bought a netbook, as we only use computer to surf net, downloading some movies and do some online stuffs, netbook can simply accomodate all our needs, we even taken up the 0% installment plan,so that we no need to come out with big cash amount for our new netbook. It is pretty light and at first, I am not get used to using this netbook because the screen is small and I feel tired easily after looking at the screen for sometimes. However, as time pastby, I feel fine with this netbook and I am using it everyday to do MyLot now.

I did use my brother's netbook. I were having the same experience as you. It didn't look like really computer for me. It was too small, too light and too slow. It was hard for me to press the keys, to read the screen, and easily pushed dropped on the floor. I was very careful in using it. After certain period of using it, I am sure the netbook will be the perfect companion to me.

As a general rule of thumb if you intend to use the pc for gaming then you need to buy a desktop as it can suppoert a better graphics card and more games. If you need just basic browsing and word processing for example, I would suggest a laptop as it is ideal to take with you anywhere. I love to take it with me to bed to spend some time browsing relaxed before going to sleep. Netbooks are portable but otehr then that I think they are too small and limited in their possibilities. I would personally opt for a laptop.

If you like performance at lowest cost, go for desktop. If you like portability and needs performance, go for laptop. If you only wants to surf the net, go for netbook :D

you should buy a laptop as it is the best of the three. it is heavier than a netbook yet lighter than a desktop(which retard would go around carrying a desktop?) laptop is more expensive than a netbook while much cheaper than a desktop(overall) laptop has more memory space compared to the netbook but less than a desktop. anyway, so much ram is not needed unless you are a game addict- that you would have to buy an alienware laptop, ALIENWARE IS DA BOMB! so, it depends, but netbook is totally out, dont buy it, unless you are going for sumtin cheap. but dont get me wrong, some netbooks are good

I agree to it too. Since I am buying a machine for personal usage, I should look for something better and something can last for longer. But I am not willing to get a too expensive machine just for personal usage.

The same question arose when i bought my desktop last year. My in-laws were telling me to buy a laptop. But since, I do not need to carry it to work, and the fact that the most of time I surf using net at home, I decided on Desktop. So please identify your priority need whether you want it for on work sales or visit coustomers for sales and carrying Laptop with you would be beneficial than only go for Laptop otherwise select Desktop. Netbooks are cheaper than Laptop. If you do not have high end use, the netbooks are o.k. However if you do not mind spending a little more, than go for laptop.

Yes, you right right. If I am very sure about my priority in the usage of the computer, then I can straight away get the answer. ha! ha! ha! May be I was thinking too much and no decision can be made yet. I hope I shall have a better idea in my mind now. Thank you so much for your suggestion.

If you buy a computer to play games, I think you should take a desktop computer. It's quite cheaper than laptop and you can upgrade it easily. But if you just need a computer for personal usage only you should take a laptop. It's comfortable, it's quite good in processing task. I think laptop is OK. Remember don't take a Netbook. It's not good in processing task, it's quite low, it's small and I think it's very hard to upgrade a netbook.

That is why all of the Internet Cafes in Malaysia are using desktop for their customers to play games. Yes, you have a good suggestion for not buying a netbook. It is better to pay a bit more own a a laptop. This laptop is a more powerful machine which I can bring along everywhere.

These are my opinions depending on your needs. 1. If you always play games, go with a desktop (as a desktop's components are easily upgraded). 2. If you travel a lot, go with a laptop. 3. If you just surf the internet and use office suites and you do not play games, go with a netbook. If I make the choice, I'll go with a laptop. It is compact, portable, and powerful enough. And also, it is easier to clean.

Your selection and decision have hinted me in my purchase. I agree to you about the need to mobile our terminal around nowadays. We really need a compact, portable and powerful machine to work for us. Thank you for your advise.

Hello guys, My preference is for Notebook, because it is smaller than desktop, Here I show you some compares: Notebook Computer for College: 1. Easy to transport to and from school. 2. Takes up little dorm space or desk space. 3. Can be carried to class or library for note-taking, study, etc. 4. If wireless network is available, adding a wireless card provides easy acces to college network and internet in many locations on campus. Newe notebook computers may have built in wireless networking ability. 5. Can be brought home during weekend or holiday visits. 6. Can be shipped to manufacturer or taken to dealer for service. That is from me.

It is really a wonderful machine. Everything is in compact and integrated. Nowadays, we can see most of the students, children and adults are holding a notebook in the colleges, shopping malls, bus stations, restaurants and so on. This might be the latest trend in the society.

I have a really great laptop and attached to it I have a really great wireless keyboard and mouse. What makes my set up great is that I bought a really in-expensive stand so my laptop sits up like a desktop. I am able to take my laptop with me where ever I go as well, so it has so many advantages that no netbook or pc can match. Mine is a Dell inspiron 600, very powerful and great.

I like to choose laptop too. The only concern is the cost. How much is my budget? Will it be enough by just paying a lump sum as my budget for it? How long the technology of the machine that I pay for can last for?
