Sometimes I toss and turn for an hour or more after my husband goes to sleep, and when I finally get to sleep, I wake up an hour or two later wide awake as if I had been sleeping a whole night! It make me very tired and grumpy during the day to deal with this insomnia, but I try just clearing my mind and focussing on something boring, like counting as high as I can without any thought interfering. (A variation on counting sheep, I guess.)
If my mind is racing with worries, sometimes I will get up to write them down, so I can stop stressing that I will forget about all the things I have to do the next day.
Some people find that meditation helps, and being able to clear your mind certainly helps you get to sleep.
Good luck!

Hi Frenchlily, I used to get very stressed whenever I couldn't sleep at night; worrying about not getting enough rest and having to work the next day. Now I learn to relax and not worry about not able to sleep. I would read a book or watch TV/Dvds until my eyes grow tired and then sleep would come eventually.

When i can't sleep i drink one glass of cold milk and i will have a very satisfying sleep. Also since my religion is roman catholic, and when the milk can not help i pray the rosary and even before i finish it i was already asleep. i wake up from a good night sleep with a big smile while still holding my rosary.happy sleeping!!! :)
