I used to drive 1 hr to go get my pizza as I live in the country and only one store had the pizza I liked so much. Maybe I like it so much is because my grandfather used to buy this pizza when I was a kid. Its the way they made it in the region my paternal family is from, which is Reggio, Calabria, Italy. The dough is about 1/2 inch thick and it has a tomato topping only. So since I now have a bread maker, I thought Id give it a try. I know can make the topping taste exactly the same. but Im still having some trouble with the dough. I tried putting the topping on the raw dough and cooking it.....it doesnt work. So I tried cooking the dough first and I nearly freaked out when it started ballooning and I had to p r i c k it with a fork, then applied the tomatoes and back in the oven. It was nearly there but not quite. So I decided the next time to just use my fingers to sort of make some indentations in the dough and cook it just a little. Then I applied olive oil and the tomatoes and its perfect!! Have you ever tried to copy some foods you buy? Did you succeed?

My grandparents are from Italy as well. My grandparents were was from Genoa in the Liguria Region. They made their pizza differently as basically pizza back in the day was leftover dough with cheese and tomatoes on it....nothing like what you see here in the States. My mother used to make a more American version of it when we were little. I still can't make the dough they way she did it. She used to make fresh pizza every Friday and us kids couldn't wait for dinner on that night. Her entire side of the family is Italy and all have different varieties of pizza, that all taste so different. I rarely get good pizza now that I am down in Tennessee. Being raised in Chicago we would always be able to get great pizza up there. They don't even have go ingredients to make it down here...I usually have to drive to a big city to get them.

I read your post and had to eat some pizza haha. Its quite easy to make the dough. Its basically some bread flower, yeast, salt, sugar, water, garlic, and some herbs if you like. I have a bread maker and this is how I make my dough so I dont have to knead it or let it rise too long. I found the recipe on the net!! More reason to do so if you cant find any good pizza in Tn. I say go for it, I bet you'll get it right eventually!! Good Luck!!

hello Magic I have never tried making pizza base at home magic. But i have bought pizza base at home and prepared pizza topping and it was wonderful. It was more good than pizza i eat at pizza hut in my city. I have tied to copy some of the Italian dishes at home and i wasn't much successful in doing that as i didn't get all ingredients required to make those dishes in local market.

Well you can try to make your own by finding great recipes for the dough on the internet. Its not always easy to copy some recipes from restaurant as they can use ingredients we cant find at our regular supermarket. So many of them use all prepared sauces that comes in powder that they add water only to it.......yes I know it sounds awful but it happens. Thanks!!

good for you MagicalBubbles, you've got some talent and patience in cooking. i also love pizza alot, but i don't have the patience or ability to make one of my own so i just usually buy them and have them delivered to my home. if there's one memorable thing i tried to cooked and ended up badly in the right way would be when i tried to make homemade lasagna using a recipe very similar to the lasagna i am addicted to at one of the restaurants that i frequent. i did everything it said on the recipe and put it in the oven to bake, but when i checked on it 30 minutes later it was not looking like a lasagna. it looked more like an uneven landscape of hills and valleys. i thought it was a disaster but when my family started to slice it and taste it, it turned out perfect.

Haha, Good for you. So I guess you cant go by the looks!! As for having patience.....the bread maker did most of the work, all I did was take the dough out of the machine, roll it and voila!! It took longer to get the tomato sauce ready. Thanks!!

I tried it a long time. But it is enjoyable especially when it comes to add stuff.
