How far should you go for progress

Seems like everything today is all about technology and progress. Mountains being quarried to give way to rising subdivisions, residential areas relocating to give way to commercial establishments. People are practically giving up everything for progress.
Today, in the news, I saw some politicians proposing a new bill to claim an area - An institution which was built in 1939 and which was able to withstand the second world war, several coup attempts, and hundreds of storms, just to make way for a possible commercial area. Here we have our past, our history. But some believe that we have to move on from our past to make way for our future.
Yes, change is inevitable. And progress is almost never without change. But how far should we go for progress?

Progress is a machine that keeps grinding forward.
Sadly this is how it has been for a very very long time. Technology and progress will continue to move forward leaving yesterday behind.
I often wonder if progress is such a great thing. We live in a world that is changing ever so quickly. It seems that progress brings about even more and quicker progress, where does it end?
When it comes to progress, nothing is sacred forever. I am sad to see when politicians and big business use their leverage to remove a site from existence or mow down a forest. I think eventually, we are going to progress ourselves right out of an environment, ecosystem and perhaps our planet as well.
I truly hope these politicians do not get their way, and the institution remains standing for long time to come.
