What do you do to save money?

I think my salary is not enough to cover up my expenses every month. I'm having the hard time to save nowadays and I don't know why. I'm paying for my rent, my phone bill, my water and electricity bill, my life insurance, my son's tuition, food and transportation of course. Every pay day, I save half a thousand and electronically transfer it to my son's account and half a thousand to my own account. I can do immediate transfer from my payroll account to my son's account and I go to another bank and deposit money to my own account. I gave my ATM card to my mother so temptation of withdrawing money will be avoided. She doesn't know the PIN, of course. :) I just hope that it will work this time. :)

I do tons of different things, actually. I budget and make plans for what to buy at the supermarket etc. Try to avoid impulse buys, which really helps. I have also automated parts of my savings so that a certain amount gets taken from my paycheck without me ever seeing it (that way I also don't miss it!) and I save all my small change in a jar. Saving change does not sound like much, but it really adds up!

It depends upon own decision to save money, how much salary we have and how we spend it in every day. I save my money in RD, fixed deposit, share market, insurance and gold schemes.
