My mylotter friends, I hope you can help me here. I am planning to buy a laptop. What should be the things or factors I need to consider when buying? Any pointers? Any personal experience when buying one and then you should have considered this or that?
Thanks for the advise,.

Downloading files means you need a lot of space usually, especially if you are planning to download movies for a collection. Get 1 with a lot of Harddrive space. A movie, depending on the quality and length varies in size, an hour dvd is usually around 700-1000 mb thats almost 1 Gb of space. There is also another option for this which is an external hard drive, where you can save your files there and not in your computer so you don't run out of space in your laptop. Look at the RAM size, and Processor. For the ram, depending on your OS, if you get an xp(I don't think they make XP's anymore) a 2GB is optimal, but if your OS is Windows 7 you'll need more, probably 2GB minimum but 4GB or more would be good. Now the processor, make sure it's one of the latest because there is always something new out there.
The last advice from me when you have picked the one you like or you have several that you think looks good is for you to read reviews of what you are getting. Look it up there are tons of reviews out there to help you.

For that use, I suggest you buy something simple. You don't need a very big screen or super fast processing so just get a decent laptop from a reputable manufacturer. I bought about a year and a half ago my Toshiba ($450 plus tax) and it's been great so far. I have also added lots of large programs on it (Image, Sound and Video processors) but the speed it still quite respectable. I believe it'd better to buy something like mine since you won't be using all the fancy features the more expensive ones offer and you can do your job very well with a cheaper machine.

Here is some point that I considering before buying a laptop.
1. Reliability,
Laptop should be reliable so it can be use for long time and support our work
2. Hardware specification
Hardware specification is very important to predict the performance of laptop.
Furthermore, operating system is important as well.
3. Brand
Brand indicates reputation of product. I always hear from other user about the
using of certain brand of laptop. The experience of user is very important even
though it may vary. I consider Toshiba, Dell, IBM or HP Compact as my laptop.
4. Price
I should consider my financial and my needed. As possible, choose the best with
the minimum price. Today, there are many new brand of laptop which offer very
low price but I can't believe them because experience of them is minim.
