Do you think that making money online is worth the effort?

Sure there are more sophisticated ways to earn online, especially for people that have certain skills and knowledge. But I'm talking about PTC sites only. It seems like forever until a user can manage to upgrade, accumulate referrals and actually make decent earnings. I believe that we can make a lot more if we invested that time picking up empty bottles and cans and returning them to the grocery store for recycling. At least that would also benefit the environment!
What I'm saying is that the earnings are very low in comparison to the effort, time and energy used. Just think that during the time we're clicking ads on PTC sites, our earnings are less of the electricity cost for our computers.
Maybe I'm exaggerating a bit but I'd like your personal thoughts and input on this subject.

I think it's only worth the effort if you're doing nothing. Idleness online costs you electricity, time, and internet connection - not to mention upgrades for your pc or laptop. But if you could find the means to at least convert some of the 'idle' 'unproductive' time to something that could cause you to earn, that isn't bad at all.
However, if you're trying to compare and online job versus an offline job, then the effort for the online job is not worth it - better do the offline job instead.
