Doing What You do not Love to do?

One of the most important lessons I've learned during my career path is to do something you love to do. Why is this important? I feel that if you enjoy what you make a living at, you end up being happy in more ways than one. Life itself becomes much more interesting and fun. You find yourself speaking passionately to others about your work. The experiences you have along the way become much more rewarding, and enrich your life in many ways. You meet fascinating people. I know people who have turned favorite hobbies into small businesses, and have succeeded. Sure, they may have had to sacrifice a steady paycheck for their happiness, but not one of them either turned back or gave up. Their passion carried them through to success and I am also lookign forward to leave my Job some day and start a business. Are you doing something you do not love to do?

Yes I am. I totally agree Instead of counting the days to the weekend, I just wake up and enjoy the day. I love my job so it really doesn't matter what day it is.

Hello Ajay, I believe that doing what we love to do give us satisfaction. No matter how difficult it is but as long as we do it with interest and dedication, we will succeed to achieved it. On the contrary, doing what we do not love to do and able to succeed the way it should be could inspired us and make us to love it. For both situation, perhaps what we have to have is determination and dedication. For sometime in our lives, we came to a point that even we don't love to do someting, we don't have a choice but to take it for that is what in store for us. But of course, doing what we love is where we got satisfaction.

Yes, it gives pleasure and satisfaction if we work towards our interest. We are not always lucky to get work of interest so have to accet things as they come. Thank You for sharing.

Yes, I agree with you Ajay, I have notice that when a child select a career because their parents like it and they want us to do that. The child will be financial ok ut will not be happy or enjoy thier work. I also feel that same thing happens with me, when I am asked to do a thing which I don’t like the result are “ok” but not fascinating, but when I do what I like the result is mind blowing.

We cannot avoid to be caught up in that situation. :| SOmetimes, there are certain circumstances that happen in our lives which we need to solve, despite our dislikes toward those situations. ONe time, my mom asked me to take CPA [Accounting] as my course. But I really don't want it, instead I want to take Law. She's worrying about the looooong time that it would take for me to become a lawyer. Then I said to my mom that "I don't like to pursue the things that my mind doesn't want me to do." Luckily, she left me with the decision.

Hi Ajay!i do agree with you.i think the most important thing to do something in this world is interest and passion. in our china, there is a saying that interest and passion is the best teacher.in my opinion this saying is very significant.because i have my own practise with it. My major in college is accounting but i did not like it.i like computer and English.reading history and writing novels.i really like writing in computer and talking with English speakers.i have published several piece of novels and some poems.i am pround of it.and my family take pride in me too. i think every great person must have his own ideal and passion in his heart. The interest and passion is the greatest motive power in the process of our making progress.well,i deeply believed this point of view.

Career wise, I used to work in an accounting firm and it was a kind of job I hate doing but I was obliged to do it because it's the course I took in college so I thought I was stuck sitting in a four cornered room with nothing and no one to talk to but my computer and the numbers for the whole day. I was miserable and there were times that I couldn't even find the 5 centavos missing in my record. Sigh... it was a painful (physical, mental) job.I know that with the way i was going, I will not go anywhere. I was not happy , so, I quit. I took a job from an interior design firm and though I was inexperienced and unproperly trained I succeeded and even got recognitions. I'm happy with what I was doing in the firm.:) though, I quit because of my kids, but in the future i am planning to do the same job again.:)

Hi Ajay, good discussion. I am somebody who spent most of her life doing what she never liked to do. :) It was a necessity. I agree, we tend to become grumpy. Somewhere in our subconscious there is always that resentment - wishing we could be elsewhere, and wishing our lives were easier, and wishing our careers were more fulfiling. :) I saved enough for retirement as fast as I could. I said enough is enough. I am not exactly doing what I would have loved to do. But life has given me a second opportunity. I am far more relaxed in the way I lead my life now. And calmer as well. Calmness helps in getting thoughts cool and collected, and talk rationally to others so that they understand where they are crossing the boundaries with you. Yes, it has become much easier. I make fewer enemies as well. :) I hope you too get to start that business someday.

Thank you for sharing your experience vandana, It's not always that we are given all we like or deserve. Got has a habit of testing us and he does it with everyone I guess. I hope that your blessings will work for me soon. Thank you Again
