All my life (or so it seem), I have been battling the problem of having a low blood count. My blood count is always up and then down. I eat all the right foods but according to my doctor the heavy menstrual flow during my menstrual cycle causes my low blood count. As a result of my low blood count I am always tired at the end of my work day. I dont think this should be so since I only have one full time job.
Has any of you had a low blood count? Ever felt like this? What did you do? I am tired of being tired!

Hi! Have you had your B12 levels checked? I was diagnosed with pernicious anemia several years ago (which is a B12 defenciecy) and when I went into the hospital I was literally missing half the blood in my body.
B12 makes blood. Try taking a B12 supplement or eating foods high in B12, they should help hugely. Red meat, eggs, liver are all great sources of B12. A steak and egg dinner is great for getting a good supply of B12.
Hugs to you. I hope you start feeling better!

Thanks a million. I will look into it and get some B12. More meat too.

Because of your heavy periods, an iron supplement might be helpful. That would be something to ask your doctor about. A good quality multi-vitamin would be a good idea too if you're not already taking one. Another idea is to get your thyroid checked. It's a more common problem than people realize. My thyroid was low. After getting on medication for it, I felt so much better and had so much more energy. Good luck and hope you get to feeling better soon!

Well I think that thyroid problem is a definite possibility. I just did some research here and my symptoms are adding up. I'll talk to my doctor.

Take the Slow-Fe iron pills. They do not cause constipation.
I hope you feel better soon.

I think, by low count you want to mean anaemia. It is a world wide problem now faced by menstruating women. But you need not worry. You may take iron tablets which will make you to suffer from constipation. You may take plenty of fruits & green vegetables. But what you need most is meat, especially liver. Meat & especially liver contains high amount of haem iron which is essential for synthesis of haemoglobin. And as ascorbic acid helps in absorption of iron, take some lemon during or after your meals.

Well I haven't been eating much meat recently. I think its red meat in this case, right? I'll get some of that.

My hemoglobin count is too low also. I have been drinking medicine for almost 4 months, eating green leafy vegetables and still my blood count is low. I too feel like what you feel, easily get tired and always dizzy. According to my doctor, one of the reason for low blood count is too much stress. Sleeping too late is one cause too. Yes, heavy menstrual flow can cause low blood count too. Every time i got my period i always feel dizzy and too tired also.

I can definitely relate to this. Sometimes I feel like I'll probably have to take iron for the rest of my life to overcome these problems.

My doctor has adviced me to have a blood pressure monitor, and to keep check on my blood counts daily. So, I am going to buy one soon and keep checking as he has advised. That would be an excellent guide for choosing and rejecting the kinds of foods.

Are you saying your blood count affects your blood pressure? I know my blood pressure is normally low but I didn't think it had anything to do with my blood count.
