Farewell America!.... Hello Socialist States of America!
In a news story just released "Feds oppose Calif. Prop 19 to legalize Marijuana"
http://www.mylot.com/w/newsarticle/25164161.aspx
The Federal Government will continue it's efforts and the war on drugs in California regarless of the popular vote of the people.
Let us set the controversial nature of the Proposition aside and foucus on the principle it's self.
"By the people, For the People"
Since when can the Federal Government dictate to a state and "trump" the popular vote of those residents.
This completely annihilates the Constitution and the very foundations we were established upon.
We have been bordered on becoming a Socialistic Society for a while now. I think this shows the true face of our Government and their intentions.
If the Federal Government is allowed to trump the popular vote of the people, then this will set precedence and open the door for further desecration of liberty and our freedom as a Democracy.

Hasn't America always had Federal laws? I thought some things were under Federal jurisdiction, and some things were under State jurisdiction. It is like that in Canada. There are areas the Feds make laws about, and areas the provincial governments are in control of, and the feds can't override the provinces on those things.

I am unfamiliar with Canada and how their structure is.
Here in the U.S. the popular vote of the people has always been the foundation of our freedom and liberty.
Without it, we the U.S. would not be a Democracy.... I mean if this is allowed to happen, .....why vote anymore?

Just a fact check for you we are not a Democracy hence why the popular vote doesn't pick the president of the United States. Bush proved that. Also we are Republic in a Democracy it is pure mob rule.

Thanks for the clarification Taskr36. I see why there is such an uproar; a similar thing happens here if the federal government ever talks about making laws that affect issues under provincial jurisdiction. The Feds rarely do so, however, because of Quebec. Since Quebec is quite concerned with keeping its unique culture, there is quite the outcry if the federal government tries to expand its powers in any way; Quebec wants to have control over as many areas of its citizens' lives as possible. Which is good, because with such a huge country, the same laws could not possible work for everyone everywhere.
And dark_joev, you have no idea how many Canadians were incensed by that stolen election. Being so close to the U.S, we are very much affected by things like U.S. foreign policy, and the Bush years were full of a lot of Canadian cringing!

I bounce back and forth with this by my thought is that the people wants and needs are not including in Federal Laws.. Seriously, sometimes I think they include us just so they have merit that they were impartial.
I think they already know what the decision will be long before the debates and decision time.

When Federal Law trumps the will of the people in an entire state, then that is no longer freedom.
What if this was put to a National vote....Would the voice of America then be heard? or would Federal law still reign supreme?
When Federal law can be dictated to a state, against the will of the people, that then becomes a police state without proper course to change the law.

...... I am pretty certain the outcome of this vote is pretty well expected. With the Federal Government's announcement of opposition, and disregarding the validity of the vote, ....I forecast the vote will pass overwhelmingly...we will just have to wait and see come November.
