I am in Mactan right now, listening to the simultaneous cockadoodledoo of some five roosters in the neighborhood. Wow, when was the last time you heard the rooting of the male chickens, huh? Sounds good orchestra to me.
Took a few steps towards the beach awhile ago actually. A biker stopped and asked if I want to ride. I asked why and he sincerely looked at me and simply nodded his head and went on his way. I made a right about turn to get back to the resort when another biker stopped and asked me to ride. Understanding now that these riders were offering me free rides, I said thanks and explained I was taking a walk. Then he wished me good morning and went on his way.
My daughter and my niece just came in from their morning walks. They said everyone greeted them good morning.
Mactan, your people are so courteous and friendly. I am so proud of you.

we could have met when you came here, mam eileen. unfortunately, i was in manila at that time. if you have noticed my posts these past few days and weeks and months, i am kinda busy with the medication of my son. he's currently with his mom in bulacan and i have to go back and forth to cebu as i have to continue working while still waiting for the schedule of the surgery. that is also the reason why i seldom go and logon mylot, slightly inactive. lol
originally, i am from bulacan and i grew up there. i studied in manila and had my first job in manila. and that same job made me landed in cebu for the very first time in my life.
blah, blah, blah... i already migrated here in cebu. and mactan is the best place for me now. i have been here for i guess, more than ten years, within my eighteen years of living here in cebu.
i can really say, cebu and in mactan islands, that people here are so friendly, etc. i really love to be a residence of this place, despite being a non-cebuano or a bisaya. hehehe...

Neil, I know I responded to this comment days ago, why my long answer was gone beats me. Anyway, I did view the TV5 video about your Zayzay and it had given me more insights about parenting and loving. You and your wife Patricia are special parents because you have to face more worries, and you have to hurdle medical and surgical obstacles, you have to endure a bigger trial - one that no parent would like to happen to their child. Hang on there! After this, there will be nothing that you can't face. Open your door wide because I believe that God's special blessings are on their way.

That's very amazing eileen. I live in a neighboring province, Bohol, but have not set foot so far in any of Mactan's beaches although I have passed by the bridge which I think is my only experience of Mactan.
It sounds like a good idea if people everywhere were like that to people, not just because they're tourists.
My father has a lot of those coc.kfighters so yes, I hear their morning call every single day.

Somebody said that Bohol is just a ferryboat away from Mactan. But I suppose your hometown is lovely, with the Chocolate Hills and the tarsiers. Take a dip in the Mactan waters, just for a change, and then back to your dad's cockfighters' farm. Theresa, your home is enviable!

I did have an enjoyable time, ANTIQUELADY, and that made me realize that I had been so pent up for so long that I had been missing the most important things in life.

I love a place such as Mactan where people are warm and very friendly. This scenario reminds me of my province in Mindanao - you know most of the names of the people, greeting them when you walk across the street or whereever, offering help or a free rides are few of the things that I am also proud of. I hope I'd be able to visit there one of these days, been in Cebu too three months ago and was able to visit Mactan for a couple hours though.

I knew I was right, generosity and kindness is innate in all the people all over these islands. The ones in the urban areas were just corrupted.

Wow, really? I haven't heard about it until now. I hope everyone in our country is made known about it despite the common mishaps with some unruly people we sometimes encounter on a day by day basis. It's amazing to know that we have fellow countrymen who would be more than happy to offer rides for people and greet each other in the morning which is no longer common nowadays. Thanks for sharing this nice info!

Enslin, I was surprised myself. But after initially taken aback, I felt guilty for not recognizing the inherent goodness in our people. Shame on me.

eileenleyva, Macton people are sinciere and good. They are telling to ride the bike and they are not riding bike ob you. Just having fun is not the mistake baby. So, keep enjoying all the time when there is liesture. Healty is always Wealthy baby....

The bikers were truly kind and helpful. I felt a little ashamed of myself for failing to see the good intentions of the simple folks.

It sounds like a lovely trip. We actually have roosters down the street from us in the neighborhood. We live near the edge of town, but still within the city limits. It is wonderful when you find a really friendly community. It is kind of funny that all the bikers want to give you rides.

GardenGerty, I apologize for not responding sooner. I had so many things to attend to, and now that I opened the computer, I found out that I never logged out. Gosh, the seasons must be changing. Everyone is turning into rush mode.
But I am glad you hear the mighty rooster's morning call everyday. It had been four years since I transferred residence from a semi-rural residence to a semi-urban subdivision. When I heard the roosters last week, I was surprised and thought this is what I had been missing for the longest time.
The road in Mactan stretched kilometers on end. The bikers somehow offer lifts so that it would be easier for the people to get to their homes.

Hi Eileen. In the city we are almost always wary when strangers offer us a free ride and would probably even think that is is some new modus operandi. But in the countryside and yes, in this case, Mactan, people are very sincere in wanting to help and are always with a ready smile.
It feels so good and so quieting to the soul to wake up to the sounds of nature rather being roused by the sounds of advancing technology -- the roar of noisy public transport and in our case even to the noise of planes taking off, blaring music from karaokes or other public address systems.
Enjoy Mactan!

Thanks blunge, I had a great time. You are very correct, the country folk had not been affected by hustle and bustle of its metro counterpart. The locals remain simple, helpful, kind and congenial.

Hi, Eileen.:)
That is a fabulous experience and I couldn't help feeling a little envious.:)
I've heard the Cebu is one of the best cities to visit in the Philippines but I have never been there . You are lucky to be enjoying those little pleasures of life. Enjoy it while you can.:)

Hi eurekafemme, I wouldn't have made the trip if not for a cousin's wedding. My daughter stood as bridesmaid, too. But it was a blessing, as you said, and I am happy I willed to go. Family is happiness, no matter what.

I love Cebu - Cebuanos are one of the friendliest people here in the Philippines. They are so accommodating and will go out of their way to please you. I remember a few years ago when I was there on a business trip and my mother asked me to bring home majareal. Its a Cebuano delicacy that apparently not a lot of them know about. One of them went out of his way to look for majareal, and just as I was about to leave, he came rushing in with several plastic bag of them. He told me he waited for them as the shop had to make them per my order.
The beaches there are so gorgeous! Although I love Mactan, I fell in love with Malapascua. I have been itching to get back there again.
You asked when was the last time I heard roosters in the early morning - well, this morning, my neighbors have a couple of them and it wakes me up in the morning everyday...

Wow, that majareal anecdote is so endearing. I did see the sincerity in the faces of the locals. They are not the ones who take advantage of others. They are so helpful and would give their best to please their visitors.
Advocate, Malapascua just intrigued me. I think I have to go back and discover Malapascua's mystery!

I speak the language but the only time i went to cebu was when the flight we're in was rerouted from CDO to mactan due to bad weather. I'm hoping to visit the place one day and spend a vacation where i can enjoy and experience first hand what you just described. Enjoy you vacation. So we'll be expecting less activity from you on mylot while you're on vacation.

Hi Eileen, You have got to get out of that city and experience some real life. Country living is just so much better for you. Good for your stress levels and health and general well being. I know we tend to gravitate to the big cities for employment but sometimes you have to wonder if it is all worthwhile. Imagine what that stress is doing to your health not to mention the smog levels that you breath every day.
Anyway, you enjoy your break and soak up some country hospitality and renew your soul. Enjoy.

Sorry for the late reply, I had a marvelous time as a domestic tourist. I also tried to learn a few Cebuano words, but the Cebuanos talked to me in perfect Tagalog. Now I would never be able to learn the dialect.
Anyway, revisiting the old towns was a good way to release stress. Mactan fascinated me decades back, and it fascinated me all the more now. Had Mactan been my home province, I would never leave.
