IT IS CONTAINED! If you have been reading my discussions, you know that my dad was diagnosed with prostate cancer last week. I previously mentioned something called the Gleason Scale, that goes from 1 to 10, ten being the worst. Well, my dad was an 8 on the scale. It didn't look good. But the test results from the bone scan and C/T scan came in, and the oncologist told my dad today that the cancer was contained to his prostate. Which is great! The doctor called it a miracle, and I know it was. Literally hundreds of people were praying for him, some of you mylotters included. The doctor warned my dad last week he thought the cancer would have spread. But it didn't. The test was conclusive, it is only in his prostate. He'll have to have his prostate removed, but in the grand scheme of things, at least he'll be alive, and that is what matters. After it is removed, he'll have to have radiation, just to be safe I guess. The surgery will be a month away. I know, it sounds like a long time to wait to have cancer removed, but that was as soon as he could get in. He'll take a month to recover, and I should be able to take care of him and my mom (for those of you who haven't been in my recent discussions, my 51 year old mom has Ahlzeimer's). I don't see any problems, although I'm sure my sister will want to come up during that time and give me a break so I can take care of my own things. My dad doesn't want me to have to help at all, but I told him it would be an honor to help him while he's going through this. Anyway, thanks to all who prayed! The first thing I said when I found out the cancer was contained, was praise the Lord!

Thanks for getting on and posting this praise. Of course you will help your parents. I am sure it is an honor. It is very rewarding to be able to help your loved ones. Give your folks our best, and help make the plans that need to be in place before you take care of them. Who did your dad think would help if you did not? You are not an invalid, and it is good for you to get to help people, especially your parents.

With his determined mind I can see him not needing much help. However it will be good for him if you are there, just in case. He will not need to be lifting either. I know someone with similar surgery who persisted in lifting when he shouldn't. It set him back. Perhaps right before the surgery he can stock up on the groceries they will need. I just think it will be good for you to be there. I think it will be good for your well being as well.

My dad didn't think he would have to have any help. Not me, not anyone. And he says he doesn't want me to do more for them than I already do. I do 75% of their housework, my dad does the other 25%. My mom does nothing. He's also worried because of my spine injury I'm not supposed to be lifting anything more than 2 pounds (that is so not realistic, my dog weighs 7 pounds) or bending over, and he knows I'll be getting their groceries and other stuff. I imagine I'll be staying over at their house for a while after the surgery. If my dad needs help, he won't get it from my mom. And I'll do for my mom what my dad can't. My mom doesn't have common sense. That is what Alhzeimer's took from her. She sees her pants, but doesn't know how to put them on. Or she doesn't know how to tie her shoes. And then one day she'll walk in fully dressed, amazed that we didn't think she could dress herself. Yet the next day we help her put her bra on, and the cycle starts again. He's just afraid my spine injury, migraines, and fibromyalgia combined with helping them, will be too much. I don't mind at all though. I'll schedule my own doctor appointments around theirs.

I am still waiting for a referral to the dermatoligist. I was so down today silly but I am really delighted for you and your dad that its contained. yes Indeed It is time to Praise The Lord. hugs from Hatley. take care of yourself too while you care for your dear father. okay?

That;s great news. My father was diagnosed with swelling prostate but he is now fine thanked God for that. I told him to take some foods that can help his prostate to be healthy. Fresh fruits and vegetables and avoid eating red meat. I advice him about taking some traditional Chinese medicine like Vigor rousing which is grape plant extract and some Cordyceps. It is also good if he can find a Saw Palmetto but anyway, taking the medications his doctor told him will also be fine. But my father does not want synthetic medicines, so he also takes good care of his body by taking TCM.

This actually a good news for your family, and a miracle after prayers. Happy for you and your dad. You should spend sometime with your dad and be beside him while he is recovering from this cancer.

First of all, AmbiePam, you inspires me about your story. you are the most positive thinking member of Mylot. Thanks for sharing your story. I have been through lately and now reading your discussion makes me believe that every thing is possible when you believe. Thanks a lot. About your dad, We have to thank God for all of his blessing. He is looking eye on you and helping you because in your heart you believe that you can survive it. God help those who help themselves. So there you go, you already found a solution and i hope i can hear another story coming from you. I hope God still helps those who need of his help. For sure he is.

Excellent news! I'm so happy for you. Now, just curious, what does a prostate do? I'm sure it's some sort of important function so does he have to do anything special to get around not having one anymore?

Oh Amber! Sweetie, I am so happy to hear this great news! Praise the Lord! He knew who your dad was and how he has served HIM! God always knows! I know that it is going to be difficult for you with your mom and and dad's issues both at the same time, but I know that your sister will be there to help and probably many others too! I am just so relieved to hear the good news! I will continue to keep praying, Love, Leslie

That is fantastic news Pam; I am so relieved for you! I bet your dad can’t wait to get the surgery over and done with! It goes to show how important early detection is. We will have to say a few more prayers that it will all go well which I am sure it will and he’ll be almost as good as new and around for many more years to come. Your news have made my day and reminded me of the power of prayer! Great stuff!

Hi AmbiePam! I am so happy to know that the cancer hasn't spread! I know you and your family are, too! A month does seem like a long time to wait to have the surgery. You do what you have to do, though. I don't remember how long daddy had to wait to have his surgery. I don't think it was this long, though. I just know that he didn't want anybody outside the family to know he had cancer until after it was over. We kept it quiet for a long time. Please know that I'm going to keep praying for you and your family.

I shudder to think how long my dad would have to wait if he lived in a place like New York. Certainly it would be harder to schedule an operation like that in New York City rather than Oklahoma City. Then again, NYC does have more hospitals.

I never thought about it that way. Yes, NYC has a lot of hospitals, I'm sure. I'm just thankful it's in Oklahoma City instead.

Amen! You'll never believe what my dad is considering doing. I think you might remember me talking about how I wanted to go skydiving when I turn 30 this next year. I tried to get my dad to go, but he said no, plus he is afraid of heights. I asked him today if he'd go this coming March, and he smiled and said maybe. I think this whole scare may have made him more open to new adventures.
