The BSNL cell phone net work is giving hundreds of new connections daily, but service is getting poor day by day. Making or receiving calls is very difficult, there are series of disconnections, and voice is not clear, noisy. Same problem persists with Reliance services.
At times I have to go to the telephone booth to make calls by dropping a rupee coin.
Do you visit public telephone booths to make calls?
How is mobile phone services there, which service provider you use?

Villages? We don't have villages and we don't have telephone booths. We are far beyond all of that.

As in our country the mobile network is encompassing every sector of the island, and the mobile subscription rate is extremely high. In every 10 people there're 8 using mobile phones. Thus there is little need for public phones and they have been dismantled to cut down costs of maintenance. Except you can see a few at the airport. The 3G mobile network is advanced and efficient, but it is the devices which are not powerful enough to handle the reception, and there're sudden drop calls.

hi professor here in the US cellphones are so predominant that we have few phone booths around any more which is silly as there are always some who cannot use cell phones for some reason, or like me cannot really
afford them. so for emergency sakes there should be a few phone booth
in central locations in our American cities.

Actually, telephone booths are pretty much a thing of the past around here. They used to be as common as a city bus stop. However, in the age that we have with everyone having mobile phones, phone booths are becoming a thing of the past. That said, both my husband and myself have cellular phones and mine is on a plan while his is prepaid. We find that it works out well for us and for the most part I would say that our reception is pretty good.

Well ,it is my personal experience that the quality of service provider depend from area to area. I live in Delhi and use both vodafone and MTNL ( I got a dual sim phone), and in my area MTNL ( or BSNL) is very good however vodafone is not that good.
Once I was in Banglore and there my MTNL number didn't work but vodafone network was really good.

I have two telephone booths installed in my shophouse. The owners come an check every month and looks like the response is not encouraging. I think they are going to uninstall them as they are not deriving any income. Since many people own cell phones, these public phones are no a necessity unless when one has run out of credit or low battery and needs emergency help the public phone become important.

Thanks for sharing. Here things are different, those not having cell phones, particularly young guys and girls, in love are seen chatting from the booths by dropping one rupee coin

dear professor,
telephone booths seem to be outdated nowadays that mobile phones could be bought at cheaper prices.
but i like the output of landline phone service because the reception is always clear. although cellphones seems to be more convenient.
telephone booth is not very popular here but still i see a few.
have a nice day.
