This is one of my favorite musicals films.
Topol as Tevye is one of the best performances in musical history. As the original Tevye of the London production (later reprising it in the 1983 Broadway revival) he came back for a farewell tour. He was Tevye until he damaged his shoulder. He came to my city, and it was truly my biggest regret to miss him. He just portrayed the complexity of the character, likable, callous, but loving.
It progresses to lighthearted, then to almost bleak but with heart carrying the tradition.

I was only able to watch the movie on our vcr a long time ago. I don't remember much about the characters but I surely remember the songs. "If I Were A Rich Man" and "Martchmaker" are truly very catchy and easily sing-able. I remember there are very touching and emotional songs in this musical. "Sunrise, Sunset", if I remember correctly is a father's song to a daughter who is about to get married. The words are so meaningful. As a daughter hearing this song, I get misty-eyed because it reminds me of my father.

I love Fiddler on the Roof! One of my favorite musicals. It's fun, emotional, and inspiring. I think my favorite song from it is "Matchmaker" but there really isn't one that I don't love. My sister has the sound track and every time someone says something to the tune of "it's tradition" she looks at me and goes "TRAAAADITION!"
