Why some people like to do the laundry outside?

Sometimes I wonder whether this is a culture difference. Here most people will have washing machine at home and they will do the laundry by themselves. When I watch foreign movies, usually the people like to bring their clothes to do the laundry. They will put the clothes into the washing machine and wait for there. Isn't it trouble? I wonder. Why not do it at home because today the washing machine can do everything. You just need to press the button and everything will be done.

A lot of homes don't even have a place to put a washing machine here - especially if they're rentals. Other times, people don't have enough money to buy a washer, so they continue to do laundry at the laundromat. I used to do that. I hated it!! As soon as I was able to get a washer, I got one. But, if I hadn't bought it from a friend who was getting a new one, I wouldn't have been able to afford it.

hi youless you forget that the people who use the laundromat are
usually people who do not have a washingff machine, No matter what
country you are in some people do not have washing machines and
some maybe single women or men living in rooming houses or in one
bed room apartments. If you have a washing machine of course you will do the wash at home. otherwise you have to use a laundromat.Good luck and God bless.

It saves you a lot of time when you are very busy already. You wake up so early for work and when you got home you're so tired already, in this kind of lifestyle I need someone to do it for me. But of course it doesnt work it that way all the time, most often I do the washing at home. I am a kind of person who sees my clothes are always clean no matter how busy I am.

I go to a laundrymat to do my clothes. Where I live I don't have washer and dryer. I could if I wanted to in the basement but I can't afford to buy a washer and dryer! So Once a week, like today, I go wash my clothes at the laundry mat. It takes around an hour and a half to do it. When I am there I sometimes read a book or run errands. I go to a real nice Laundrymat and it is not far from where I live. When I lived at home mom washed everyone's clothes! She hated if someone used the washer besided her! Never knew why!

Hi,
SOme clothes can be washed at home, but some has to sent to
laundry shop before of the material of the clothes, It need
extra care and only laundry shop provided this kind of services.
For my family, my mother always sent our house curtains to
laundry shop before it is dificult to wash herself and it is very
big pieces and need more time and energy to wash it.
So better way is to send to laundry shop and when it comes back home,
those curtains looks clean and neat.

it really depends who and where...
even when i was studying / living alone (renting) - it was no point for me to buy myself my own washing machine.. so going to the coin laundry to get my laundry done was the next best thing.. most of the scenes in movies are usually like that - single people washing their laundry, no ???..
sometimes the building admin provides the machines.. sometimes you totally have to find places outside your building..

In western countries not every house is equipped with washing machine, and it is very expensive to buy one. For those who live in small houses or flats, there isn't enough room to put a washing machine and a tumble dryer. Or for those who rent a house or a flat without washing machine, they have to go to laundrette as well. In fact, there are many people living on their own in western countries, and it may not be economical for them to have a washing machine at home since they don't have many clothes to wash. Using laundrette is actually more energy-saving for them. If you use a more expensive laundrette (not self-service), maids there will iron and fold your clothes for you. It is another advantage if you live on your own and lead a busy lifestyle. And sometimes people just enjoy meeting and talking with people in their local laundrette.

Doing the laundry is a chore that some people just don't enjoy doing themselves. they may be pressed for time and find it more convenient to have it done for them.

hello youless!
yeah,i have noticed some people are like that.they do go to laundry shops and pay rather than do the laundry themselves.
well, here in the philippines, people have to wash by hands at times even if they do have washing machines.sometimes just doing washing machines can't get rid of germs or dirt on clothes so we need to wash by hands instead.that makes the laundry thing really a tough job to do.so they prefer to bring their clothes to laundry shops instead.
for me,i don't do that.cause i'm a thrifty person and i always wanted to wash my clothes by myself.to make sure that clothes are washed the way i see it.
sometimes,if it's too many,i do get some help and hire some people to do the laundry instead.well,it is really seldom to happen.cause most of the time,i do the laundry myself.

I disagree. Washing machine CANNOT do everything. :D Yes, it's easier & faster but it cannot remove the dirt/stains completely. It's still best if you'll do it manually. For people who do laundry outside, maybe they are just living in a condo/dormitory, etc. Or maybe they are just lazy. =))

I don't know the real reason why people like to do laundry outside, but i think they want to do laundry outside because they don't exert effort anymore, they won't make themselves tired of washing their clothes. They'll just bring their clothes to the laundry shop and pay, they leave it for a couple of hours and when they get back their clothes are already ready.Just as simple as that.:)

Not everybody is lucky enough to own a home. Some stay in rental apartments. When you are renting you are unlikely to buy your own washing machine due to other requirements like plumbing and electrical outlet. In those cases, it is much easier to do laundry outside.

I think it is cultural difference. Here we have people who do not do their own laundry too. I think maybe because dryers or washing machines with dryers are too expensive here. Or some people still think that it takes too much time for them to wash their clothes to they take it to the laundry. Only the laundry shops here, you are not the one who will put your clothes in the machine, take them out, dry them and those stuffs. you just leave all your dirty clothes with them, then return the next day to pick them up after they have been washed, dried and folded

as what i heard with my grandmom washing machine can not thoroughly wash perfectly like not when you wash it with hands. using a laundry brush you can co to every part of the clothing and give it a brush. for example my pants. whenever i wear that outside and it rained it will all be muddy and oily. my wife does not wash it by using washing machine for the dirt wont be totally gone. she will soak it with soap then after an hour she will use brush to scrub the muddy area. some delicate clothing also my wife does not use the washing machine. she told me when she was younger they dont have washing machine so they all washed clothes manually.

Like all of these mylotters have said, some people don't have a washing machine because they can't afford one. When I was in college, I used the laundromat across the street from the campus one time. I don't remember what the reason was because we had washers and dryers in the dorm. Some people, myself included, like to hang their clothes out to dry in the summer because they like the scent of the outdoors on their clthing. I do have a dryer, though, and I use it more often in the winter. I especially like to hang out my sheets.

Well, not everyone owns a washing machine. That's why some people need to go to a laundry to get their clothes washed.
In my case I am fortunate and I own a washing machine, but if I didn't I would have to look for a laundry. Otherwise it would be too bothersome to wash them by hand in the sink or in the bathtub, and it would be bad for my skin too because of the detergent.

I think many different reasons that cause this phenomenon happen. Firstly, many foreign people like a life of quick rhythm. They don't want to take too much time on washing. When they are waiting for there, they also can do something else. Secondly, some people just want to have a rest during the washing time. Thirdly, consumers can give a chance to the people who are working in the laundly to earn money. Because of that most of the people in laundries are life on the ground floor.
