Ok since the holidays are just around the corner, I'd like to know what you guys like better: "puto bumbong" or "bibingka"?
a little definition is in order, in case you don't know what those two are :p
Puto Bumbong is a traditional Filipino dessert made of glutinous rice baked in tubes (colored with purple food coloring)
Bibingka is a dessert made of rice, flour, and coconut.
I personally like "bibingka" better. Especially when it's still hot! Oh man, it's making me crave for it just thinking about it. :p I never liked "puto bumbong" ...I don't know why. It's ok (and I think the purple color is a cute touch), I guess I just don't like the consistency of it.

I love "puto bumbong!" Probably because it makes me feel nostalgic. I mean you can get "bibingka" anytime of the year if you know where to look for it, but "puto bumbong" is best eaten after "misa de gallo." Maybe it's pavlovian, but the latter has always reminded me that Christmas, my favorite holiday, is just around the corner.

I'd have to agree with you there. :) Puto bumbong really hits you with a major dose of nostalgia. Once you see puto bumbong vendors outside your church you just know that Christmas is just around the corner. :) But what do you think tastes better? :)

Puto bumbong! I love native purple snackfood! That and nilupak and purple puto. Purple makes me hungry. Maybe that's why I love going to Dunkin Donuts too. The logo is designed to make people hungry on purpose.
And well there's something about melted margarine, sugar and shaved margarine. Combined, these things make a rapturous symphony of Perfect! inside my mouth. The putobumbong is basically tasteless, but my tastebuds like it like that.
Oh and the fact that it's easy to screw up a bibingka. I don't think I've had a good one in years.

When I said "shaved margarine" I really meant "Shaved coconut." But why not, eh? ^.~

Everyone seems to like it for its color. :) ...what if someone made purple bibingkas? Do you think people would then like bibingkas better that puto bumbongs? :)

hehehe, nice idea, well maybe I will not eat bibingka if it is purple. I only like puto bumbong during this season, It is rare to see puto buumbong in ordinary days unlike with bibingka. Even malls have bibingka. I have seen 1 in SM?

hahahaha. Yeah a purple bibingka might mean something else. :p Yes I've seen a few stands in the malls selling Bibingkas. I tried one (I just forgot what the store was) and it was pretty good. :)

I grew up eating puto bumbong and bibingka because I lived in the province, but I prefer puto bumbong, it has a distinct taste which could really satisfy appetite, it is tastier than bibingka because it is made from grated cassava with sugar and coconut, plus it is topped with bukayo or cooked young coconut. Puto bumbong is easier to cook than bibingka.

Bukayo? wow! I haven't tried a puto bumbong topped with bukayo yet! That sounds delish! I'll try that next time we buy puto bumbong... I have to find bukayo first though. :p

I've been living in metro manila for the last 11 years and never missed seeing puto bumbong sold during christmas season near churches. There was a time that i just live a stone throw away from Baclaran church but in all those years, i've never tasted a puto bumbong. So i guess the answer for me is bibingka since i've been eating the delicacy ever since i can remember.

One vote for bibingka. :) Puto bumbong is a totally different experience though, so if you get the chance do try it. :)

At last bibingka gets 1 vote! woot! :p Yup, the slated egg on the bibingka is actually a nice touch... it adds flavor to it. You're right, it's that time of year again so it's time to get our puto bumbong/bibingka fix! :)

The salted egg and cheese really nails it for me to. :) That's what I really really like about bibingka. :)

haha :p I hear you sister, I hear you! :) Looks like Puto Bumbong is getting majority of the vote. :) Do you guys think it also has something to do with us Filipinos being nostalgic? I mean it's almost automatic... whenever we see puto bumbong Christmas immediately comes to mind. :)
