I have neighbors who are from Arkansas......don't get me wrong, there is nothing wrong with that state!!But, this family is HAPPY all the time. They enjoy life's little pleasures and don't try to be like the rest of the world.
They live to be happy, kind, and take care of their own family and don't mess in other people's business but they are always there with a helping hand if it is needed.
I wonder do any of you all have neighbors that are like this? Kind but don't worry about what others think???
Please let me know..

hi quita where I was before I had to come to the retirement center the peope really just were not friendly except for two families. the people on either side of me only spoke when someone delivered their packages to the wrong address. Here at least a lot of people will talk to me and half dozen are real friends to me but not at all like my best friend .I owe her so much as she is always there for me and we are no longer neighbors but that has made no difference to either of us. I am glad your have neighbors like that. they are the best kind. I have never got use to people not knowing their next door neighbors as I came from a very small town where we all knew and helped each other.of course in a cold snowy winter weather South Dakoa people help each other =as sometimes their lives may depend on being helped too.

Hi Hatley,
I am happy for you to have such good friends at the retirement center but sad to think your neighbors only spoke if packages were delivered to the wrong address...
We all need best friends like you have. Right now, I really don't have a good friend like I used to have. Times do change.
But, these neighbors are a true inspiration and I get a warm feeling seeing them in their yards, going to work, each one helping the other.
I understand about South Dakota ! I lived in Montana for 8 years and tho I lived on a mountain pass, I had great friends who watched out for me.
It's amazing the difference in states and how people are so different.
Do take care of those good friends in that retirement home. They are priceless.
Take care and let me hear more from you. I'd be your neighbor if I could!!
hugs, quita

Yes, Gabs these people are truly the best, however since I started this discussion, they will be moving this coming week end:(
I hate to see them go but they live in a rental house and it's not the best, so if they can do better for themselves, then I am happy for them......

I have neighbors but they're not really close to me, if you know what I mean. In other words, it's not like I can walk out my backdoor and see their house. We had a farm out here for years but when daddy passed away in 1985, the property was divided up between the children. My brother and one of my sisters sold their property and I have houses coming up all around me now, I hate to say. As far as I can tell, they seem like they're always happy. I know there is one neighbor that whenever he and I are outside at the same time, he always smiles, speaks, and talks to me over the fence. They had a small garden one summer and he gave me some okra from that garden. None of my neighbors mess in anybody's business, either. It's nice to have neighbors like the ones you have. I wish everybody could be happy like that all the time.

I think you must have wonderful neighbors. Have you tried to get closer to them?
At least you talk across the fence.
We too used to live outside of town and not many neighbors but did get to see them now and then.
REally sounds like you have good neighbors and the barrier just hasn't been broken to get closer.
I imagine your neighbors are happy like mine are , you just don't see them all the time.
Take some time if you'd like to know them better and make an effort to see them more often.
In these times it's hard to imagine people like these who live across the street being happy with things simple.
I too wish everybody could be happy all the time.
You know, the holidays are coming and you might bake something nice and take it to your neighbors.
I am going to.
HAPPY HOLIDAYS AND THEN MERRY CHRISTMAS.

Thank you, quita! That's so nice of you to say that! I believe I would like you for a neighbor, too! Yes, I realize I have a life and I guess I've pretty much made my own mark in the world. I sing and play the guitar at one nursing home and one assisted living facility here in town once a month. I've been doing this sinc I was in my 20s. I also volunteer at a therapeutic riding center here in town once a week. As you can see, I stay pretty busy. I inherited the house I grew up in and the poperty around it after mother passed away in 1997. You said your house is on two lots by a lake. I bet that's nice! I have a big lake in front of my house, too. My family and I always called it a pond but actually it's a lake. It was here when daddy bought the farm in 1949, three years before I was born. I've been thinking about making some pictures of my house and property and posting them on here sometime.

HI !! I am not getting some of my responses.. but here I am lol
You do sound like you are busy and making others smile with your guitar playing ! I used to work in nursing homes and I know how those old folks love that kind of thing !!
I too am impressed with the riding center.
That must be great fun too.
How do you find the time ! But, you make a difference in others and that is the important thing..
We have similar back grounds as I too inherited but think I've already told you that...
Ah, the lake living is nice but it does have its draw backs ! Loads of traffic, especially on holidays and week ends.
The thing I enjoy most is the birds, no, not fishing ! There are many different species here in the summer and some are even migrating now, and I love to walk the banks and down by the boat houses. It's fun to feed the Canadian geese and the pelicans were my biggest thrill! I only saw two but never did see any babies if they had them.Still I am hoping they will be back next year.
Oh, here I am blabbing and I want to tell you that taking those pictures of your home place is a great idea! I would love to see them.
Now, you take care and kiss an elderly old man for me LOL
hugs, quita

My experience says, a neighbor can be a best friend and the worst enemy too. We need to keep good relation with them always, inspite of this many don't like to be good, it is their inburn nature, we can't help, you are lucky to have good neighbors..
Thanks for sharing.
Professor. . Cheers

I think you words are very true. I am lucky to have good neighbors.
The ones I've written about are the most colorful and the most happy ones.
I do have another one, and he and I walk every day. His wife works and she walks with her sister who lives in town.
He has been in a bad accident several years ago where his legs were run over by a police van and he has dr. orders to walk just like I do due to my open heart surgery a month ago.
I also have a neighbor to the east who is a little on the snooty side tho. But, still they are talkative/social if I force the issue !!!

Could be but if you'll look around you, there ARE nice people. You just have to be open minded to find them.
This family is a mix of broken homes and kids who have two daddies ,etc., but they have found happiness in their lives with each other...
God Bless

I wish I could answer in the affirmative but sadly this is not the case.
You are fortunate indeed.
