How do you relate with broccoli?

Every day that passes, scientists discover more good things about broccoli. Now we know that it has a lot more vitamin C than oranges and we also know that vitamin suplements are not absorbed well by our bodies. So it´s broccoli time and now it´s the time of the year when it is in season. You can eat it in many ways and freeze them for a rainy day. I was just checking a recipe in internet that wasn´t the typical chicken and broccoli casserole and found an easy stir fry with broccoli, a bit of beef (can be leftovers, I thought), orange juice and grated orange peel, oil to fry, and soy sauce and a bit of cornstarch for the chinese touch. It can be made in a jiffy and I always have cooked or fried rice going at the fridge. How do you like your broccoli? It it a veggie you use often? Do you have a special recipe? Do share! Happy posting!

Hi Are you referring to Alberto Broccoli????Just joking. Yes, broccoli is a very healthy vegetable and has got numerous health benefits. Broccoli provides a high amount of vitamin C, which aids iron absorption in the body, prevents the development of cataracts, and also eases the symptoms of the common cold. The folic acid in broccoli helps women sustain normal tissue growth and is often used as a supplement when taking birth control pills and during pregnancies. The potassium in broccoli aids those battling high blood pressure, while a large amount of calcium helps combat osteoporosis. The vegetable is also fiber-rich, which enhances the gastrointestinal tract, as well as aims to reduce blood cholesterol levels. Additionally, the health benefits of broccoli have been linked to preventing and controlling the following diseases: Alzheimer's disease, diabetes, calcium deficiencies, stomach and colon cancer, malignant tumors, lung cancer, heart disease, arthritis, and even the aging process. There are many ways to cook broccoli-it can be boiled, steamed, eaten raw, and baked with great-tasting accompaniments, such as a good tasting creamy cheese. Broccoli also decorates casseroles, rice dishes, and is an excellent addition to a salad. It can also be used to make delicious soups, including the Broccoli Cheese and Cream of Broccoli options.

I had posts repeated yesterday. I don´t know what it is. I love broccoli in many ways although I must confess that I look up more to the taste than to the vitamins and minerals it has. The only way I don´t like broccoli (and for that mattr any veggie) is overcooked.

I don't have a special recipe to use with broccoli but I have it with something else for my meal. Sometimes, I will have it raw, not often. I prefer it cooked so it would be easier for me to chew. Family hates the fact we have to cook a lot of it because I eat like a horse, and I can go through at least pound of it at one meal, sometimes two.

Yeah, I do eat like a horse, but it is only because I need the fuel. I go through food like crazy, which keeps me hungry. I don't do this because the food is there. I have a big appetite, and a lot of muscle that need the fuel also because I do too much stuff. I try to eat normal person portions only to find persistent hunger, and anger, and a some growling. It is dangerous for others if I am hungry. Thanks.

I love broccoli, I think I've done that recipe, except we use Normandy mix (carrots, broccoli and cauliflower) and leave the corn starch out (obviously)

A BIG HUG!!! Today I´ll have leftovers from my diner with my fav cousin yesterday. It´s all very healthy. I managed to make a minestrone without onion or garlic. I told him though that next time, I´d hide some in the soup. For seconds, I made a rice (cant make it without garlic and he says it´s the best he has eatet) with chicken and cawliflower fried with beaten egg. He stayed for the night and today he fixed the kitchen lights that were a mess. It was not a matter of changing bulbs and he paid dearly for last night´s food. Have you tried a broccoli quiche or pie? It´s out of this world!

Yes, I love Broccoli ever since and I am even loving it more after reading from the news that it has a very effective cancer-fighting properties. I personally cooked my Broccoli recipe. And to get its real taste, I invented my own recipe. To receive the maximum health benefits, I cooked it with carrots and olive oil, thi is how I do it: 1 cup of Broccoli half cup of cube carrots 2 cloves of garlic 1 Onion (chopped) 1 Teaspoon of Olive Oil 2 Teaspoons of Oyster Sauce half cup of water Put pan in a fire then put the olive oil, after heating it, put garlic and onion, then add broccoli and carrots, after a while put Oyster sauce then water. Cook it until broccoli and carrots are half-tender. It will give you a super delightful recipe while receiving lots of nutrients.

I don´t know what is oyster sauce or what it tastes like. Besides that, I can get all the ingredients. Is there anything that resembles the ingredient that I can´t get?

Hiya margi, Just been reading a bit about Broccoli and it says that it can alter some medications like those that take Medication to thin the Blood. Also it can cause Kidney Stones. Really I think if you eat it and it upsets you then your system probably does not like it and just rejects it that way. Grapefruit is supposed to have the same effect or something like that. So it seems like a little bit of everything is good for you. An example everyone here loves Empanadillas and I hate them as they are way too greasy so I don´t eat them. My Son hates Croquetas so I don´t put him any. You enjoy your Broccoli though. Tomatoes are supposed to be bad for you too but I eat them a lot and can´t find anything wrong with them. To each his own I suppose. Take care now Sue.xxx

I´m sure that anything eaten by tons is bad for your health. I like broccoli and buy one once in a while. I eat grapes on season because i mu country they are inexpensive and the ones I like best are the cheapest as they are not exportd because they don´t travel well. OOPS! You were talking about grapefruit! I don´t like that! One source less of illness. I like empanadas and croquetas, but only made by myself. Empanadas in my country have onion inside (among other things). If you do´t fry them well, your tummy YELLS. As for croquetas, just as any fried food, good oil is a must. I make mine not so thick so they cook inside without frying too much outside. Hug!!!

Hiya margi, Well I make sure that they fry well too but I don´t eat them usually only the odd one. Yes if they are not cooked on the inside properly the tummy will protest and how. Well I did´nt mention Grapefruit but they are another thing that can cause problems too with medications mainly. But their benefits are enormous also. We don´t see many Grapefruits here at all.

Hi. marguicha. I like my broccoli mixed with veggies. Such as onions, honey glazed carrots, zucchini, and mushrooms. I also love to eat my broccoli all by itself with with just cheddar cheese melted over it. It is very good when I make it this way.

I have no favorite way to eat broccoli. I love it in any form. I prefer it steamed or raw but am not thrilled with boiled broccoli. I don't like it overcooked and that often happens when it's boiled. I have some fresh broccoli in my fridge right now. I buy a bunch to cut up and keep in the fridge, together with cut up carrots and cauliflower to eat fresh with a dip or salad dressing. I put them in single-serving sized plastic bags so they can easily be pulled out and eaten. I don't have a problem cutting them up each time I want some but my husband won't eat anything he can't just pop into his mouth as a snack. If it takes any kind of cutting, slicing or other preparation, he'll leave it for something easier. That's why I cut it all up when I bring it home. At least he'll eat a LITTLE something that's good for him! Whenever I have the opportunity to eat out (which is very rare), I order broccoli as one of the veggies. I prefer broccoli over any other kind of veggie.

I agree with you about not liking overcooked broccoli. In fact I hate all overcooked veggies and that´s one of the reasons why I steam most of them. You can control the coooking much better that way. Cauliflower and broccoli flowerettes are one of my favorite appetizers when I have visitors. I put some homemade garlic mayo on the side. YUMMY!!!

Broccoli is one of those wonderfully underrated vegetables. I love it and either serve it steamed, or used in recipes several time each week. I love saving the stems to make cream of broccoli soup. I add it to almost any recipe that has some kind of sauce. When I steam it, sometimes I add some garlic to add more flavor...this is especially good if I'm serving pork. It's great as a snack, too. Just keep some bite-sized pieces around and assorted salad dressings. In our house it disappears before the potato chips. Too bad it's not good with ice cream though.

Try it in quiches! They are delicious and quiches are wonderful starters for an elegant dinner. I have never made broccoli soup with the stems but you can bet I´ll do just that with my next broccoli. Thanks for the idea.

Hiya margi, I like Broccoli as well but not too much of a quantity. I like the taste of it more than anything else. I find spinach is very strong for me so I limit the intake and the Acelga I wish I knew the name for this in English I find it very upsetting now as they are selling a different kind that is way to stringy and tastes much different to the original one. Going back to Broccoli I like it but not something that I would eat every Day. I prefer Green Beans and Peas. Artichokes (Alcachofas) not the ones the Paparrazi shoves in your Nose for you to speak. Really like your recipe for the Broccoli though you enjoy it.

Quiches with broccoli and other veggies are out of this world. You don´t have to make them a one veggie quiche. I always add diced cheese to them and some paprika on top for colour. Acelgas are growing like mad in my yard now that Spring is coming. I use them instead of spinach during the seaso (most of the year, because they are free although I prefer spinach for some dishes. But when you have them in your yard, you can pick them small and tender. As for alcachofas, I love them any way. I often just cook them and eat them with mayo or a vinagraitte, leaf by leaf , scraping them with my teeth. But I also make sauces (nice with pasta) or quiches. I found that acelga in Eglish is swiss chard but, on looking at the picture, I found out that it looks similar but it´s not the same. Take care!

First of all, I would like to tell everybody that I love broccoli very much. I am not a good cook. Whenever my family cook broccoli, I prefer they mix it with other vegetables. They will normally add a little bit of chicken meat. Very delicious.

I steam broccoli (and other veggies) so they don´t lose thir nutrients. You can put them all in the properpot with holes and water under them. Then it´s just a matter of adding olive oil, salt and other herbs to your taste and either lemon or vinegar if you like. No need to be a chef to eat like one. Happy posting!

Broccoli is one of my favorite vegetable. When I was little my mom would steam them and we'd eat them w/ mayonnaise... but now we usually put dressing. I can eat them just plainly steamed too with nothing on it. I also like the broccoli beef Chinese dish. They are good in pasta too.
