I was telling my Aunt I found a recipe for microwave caramel pop corn I was thinking about trying when I have money for corn syrup. She told me she had the same recipe and that I should use pop corn that's been stored in the fridge. I asked why and she said the cold popcorn is supposed to pop better. Is this true? I've never heard of such a thing.

When you are initially popping the popcorn, the kernals should never be stored cold because it can cause them to have a harder time popping. However, once you've popped the popcorn and you are getting ready to do the caramel part of it, you can store the popped kernals in the fridge because if it is cold then the caramel will adhere to the popped corn better than it would do when it was at room temperature. In addition to that, it will be at a temperature that is comfortable to eat more quickly.

I've heard that one shouldn't store popcorn in the refrigerator because it dries it out, too. BUT I do know that if popcorn doesn't pop well, you can chill it and it will pop faster. Maybe the difference is in just chilling it for awhile instead of storing it in the cold. I have done this with popcorn that was kind of old and didn't want to pop and it works.

hi 3SnuggleBunnies I do not think that's a good idea as the cold might sap moisture out and they would either not pop or else would burn too easily. I know I have always heard at room temperature and watch in the microwave as they pop real quick there an also burn pretty quick too.oh caramel popcorn that sounds so good. I get crunch and munch caramel pop corn with nuts and its so good I usually eat more than I should. But homemade would be even better .yummy

I have never heard of this before, but it can be worth a try I guess. I thought you were writing a discussion about eating popcorn when it is cold by the way, I am so relieved that was not what the discussion was about. Eating cold and old popcorn is gross!
