Would you vote for someone if this were in their manifesto?

How about this for a radical rethink on the Justice system? Let's put the seniors in jail and the criminals in a nursing home. This way the seniors would have access to showers, hobbies and walks. They'd receive unlimited free prescriptions, dental and medical treatment, wheel chairs etc and they'd receive money instead of paying it out. They would have constant video monitoring, so they could be helped instantly, if they fell, or needed assistance. Bedding would be washed twice a week, and all clothing would be ironed and returned to them. A guard would check on them every 20 minutes and bring their meals and snacks to their cell. They would have family visits in a suite built for that purpose. They would have access to a library, weight room, spiritual counseling, pool and education. Simple clothing, shoes, slippers, PJ's and legal aid would be free, on request. Private, secure! rooms for all, with an exercise outdoor yard, with gardens. Each senior could have a PC a TV radio and daily phone calls. There would be a board of directors to hear complaints, and the guards would have a code of conduct that would be strictly adhered to. The "criminals" would get cold food, be left all alone and unsupervised. Lights off at 8pm, and showers once a week. Live in a tiny room and pay $900.00 per month and have no hope of ever getting out. Justice for?.

I think this person is trying to make a point that we offer so much to people that break the law like if you go to jail the state has to pay for your medical bills they do charge you to be locked up but its like $25.00 a day or something like that. Which doesn't even cover the expense the state has to pick up. On average it can cost the state $250,000 to put a person into the system. That is enough to send them to college at a four year university. Due to all the "free" services they get. I think I would vote for him/her as he would obviously is saying he wants to fix that and make it the other way around.

Yes. For 2007/8 the average cost of keeping a prisoner is around £32,000 a year. In 2007 I was earning slightly over 1/2 that, working a 60 hour week!

Sounds good to me. It is a sad reality here in the U.S. that the criminals are treated far better than the senior citizens who have done nothing wrong. If it were up to me, we would go back to the old days where the prisoners had no heating or air conditioning, ate what amounted to slop, and had to work on chain-gangs every day whether they wanted to or not. They would have no phones, no TV, no weight rooms, no library, or any other creature comfort. They would work 16 hour days no matter what the weather was like, and would have to do their own laundry and cook their own meals. They would have to clean their own sleeping areas, shower areas, and other living areas AFTER they worked all day on the chain-gang all day. Prison would have less people in them if the lives of the prisoners were not so easy...

Very true. It's also amazing that the UK pison system has no space for many prisoners. I think that somewhwere near 1800 rapists and murderers have been released early under police supervision to make space for 'more serious' offenders!
