Who would you want to become the drummer of Dream Theater?

So Mike Portnoy has taken an indefinite leave as drummer of the prog super group Dream Theater. Although the boys are in good terms, Dream Theater has decide to record the new album without Mike. They are currently holding auditions to find a suitable temporary (I say temporary because both parties have said that they are both open to reuniting sometime in the future if circumstances permit) replacement for Mike.
Who would you want to fill the drum duties for dream theater?
Although I've often imagined Virgil Donati playing drums for Dream Theater... I would personally like to see Marco Minneman play drums for DT. I love Marco's solid chops and his almost melodic drum playing... he would really fit in nicely with DT. :)
...I hope Mike comes back soon though ...I would love to see the boys back together doing what they love most. :)

I am not all that familiar with drummers, but I am a fan of DT. If he'll be gone temporarily, then it would be best to have someone well known like Donati to take Portnoy's place.
I'm glad to know that they're open to the possibility of reuniting! Portnoy is really something else!

I think what's really great about Dream Theater is they are all good friends --- extended families even. So yeah, I do think they will get together, if not soon, sometime in the future. And when that time comes, I have a feeling it would be epic! :)

Virgil Donati is a great drummer but he has his own style - he holds the stick in the traditional manner - I'm not sure he'd want to be in DT.
There are drummers who are good enough but usually they are in a band or have their own thing going - because if you are as good as Portnoy you aren't out of work for long!
I'm not convinced they are going to find a drummer quickly. I know Portnoy wanted year off and it might take the rest of them that long to find a replacement!

Very true! ...and Donati has Planet X to keep him busy plus his sessions and clinics around the world so yeah he has his hands full. :)
I am actually very excited for Portnoy and Dream Theater... I have a feeling this break will do both 'em good. :) Portnoy could concentrate with his projects (I love Transatlantic!) ...by the time he comes back to DT everything would be fresh again ...maybe they could all discover a new sound. :)
