My new bookcase

Last January I was shocked to see, most of my books were eaten by termites, the books were kept in 6’x4’x2’ wooden and steel shelves, we call them ‘almirah’. They were kept in a room of our old home. During renovation work, water seeped in to them and caused this damage.
Whatever text-books were in good condition, I distributed to the local students, donated some to a book bank library in the locality. The reference books I kept in a book case built in to wall in my room. You can see them in the photo I share.
Where you keep your books, magazines, dictionaries normally; were they ever eaten by termites?

My room used to the be the master bedroom and I have so much room for my books. I have one shelf which wasn't enough eventually. My study table (the kind that folds up) houses a lot of my Shakespeare and how to write books. My latest addition is a new installment of shelves mounted on my wall. They used to be on a wall in another part of the house and it was where our family displayed our collection of figurines amassed over the years. The shelves are made of wood and house nearly all of my books and then some. My books have never seen a termite attack yet, but I am not hoping :) I'm sorry to hear about your books. I'll be moving out soon so I'll be donating quite a number of books too :)

hi p rofessork thats terribble to lose books like that, I had not
thought of termites but if they eat wood they will eat paper too.
we had some chairs, overstuffed pink rather ugly looking , my son
brought out of the dumpster. I did not like them to begin with
but when I got up one marning and saw a pile of what looked like
sawdust under those ugly chairs I told my son we had to get rid of
them as they were infested with termites. he helped me carry them
back down to the dumpster. If they had stayed in our apartment we
'could have lost a lot of our books too. I do feel for you as I
really love all my books and they were in good condition wben we
were evicted so they are now in storage until we can afford to
move into another apartment. I have a number of books here that'I keep in a basket but thankfully no termiites.

I (thankfully) have never had such a catastrophe! I don't know what I would do if I had to face such terrible circumstances! I don't have any that are worth a lot, but I have spent years collecting what I do have and I would not want to lose even one of them! I am amazed at how attached I've become!! maybe I am really sick!! hahahaha!Lol!

Right now all of my books are in boxes upstairs in my house because of the fact that we haven't had the opportunity to make our built in shelving yet so I can display them. In my old house I just had a five shelf bookcase that I kept them on. I've never had problems with my books getting eaten by termites or anything like that. The only damage that I've ever had to a book that I owned was when I am irresponsible and leave them in the bathroom.

That's terrible! I would've thrown a fit if I saw my precious books destroyed by termites. I usually keep them in a bookcase in my room that I regularly clean, so thank goodness nothing like this has ever happened to me. It's a good thing though that you donated some of the books to the local library...
