Hello, myLotters, do you think that the president of a country should belong to a political party? The president of my country suspended his membership saying that he wanted to be a president of the whole nation. I Romania the president can't belong to a party, this is written in the Constitution. But in many countries the head of state stays with his party. This question came to my mind when I watched the president Obama in the election campaign. What do you think about it?

Hello Fannitia. I don't think anyone should give up their political beliefs anymore than they should be asked to give up their religiou beliefs. I do believe elected officials should be able to work together for the good of the people (all of the people). There are good ideas that come from both sides. We have a two party system so we can get the best representation for all of the people.
Our president is elected by a majority of the people precisely for his political party policies. That is the will of the people. So for four years, that is how it should be. Congress balances that. So you see, we do have our checks and balances.
I have to say, with our Republican party being the party of "NO" there is little balance with this administration.

Thanks for your response. Now when I think that in the US the president is the main figure - yes, it seems right for him to keep his membership. This way the party takes responsibility for the government of the country. It's the same case in France for instance. In my country the main figure is the prime minister and his party is blamed for all the problems of the nation:D
