Hi Admin, I have been an active member of MyLot since the last many months. I am also a member of other social sites. My Birthday is on 23rd Sept and I had expected some message from you and some of my friends here too. The other networks did send me messages and I could also find many messages from my friends on these sites in my mailbox with these sites. Unfortunately, though you ask for the date of birth, you do not seem to have a habit of sending a friendly email to those who have been associated with your site. That is hurting and I am hurt. You also should have a reminder or Upcoming Bdays Reminder email thing that would help in keeping and building stronger relations with friends out here. I mean if you can send us emails asto what discussions are started by our friends and which ones got deleted, and even the ones that get us best responses, why not include a birthday email. Please do something about this. Thanks.

Well, on behalf of the administration, let me wish you a belated happy birthday. I had a cake for you but could not figure out how to attach it to an email to get it to you In all seriousness though, let me try to explain something and hope you understand. The emails you receive on started discussions, deleted discussions, etc are all automatic. It is true, the tech department could probably implement something in to the system to automatically send out a happy birthday wish, but to me it would seem a bit impersonal. After all, birthday wishes from friends and family are great, but when a computer does it, well, it just feels kinda cold. It would not be possible for the administration to personally send out an email with such a wish, given the large number of users, so that's a bit out of the question as well. I have to admit, it is a clever suggestion and I might just pass it along to the rest of the crew for consideration. but as busy as we are kept just with the day to day operations here I can't guaranty anything. But just the same, I may pass the suggestion along.

Well I'm not totally heartless

Thank you...a sense of humor is essential for this job, lol. As for the friend request, I receive literally dozens of these per day. I'm afraid I can only respond to them in the case of an issue that has arisen and then only on a temporary basis, long enough to deal with an issue a user may be having. If you sent one because of an issue since I started using the account, and I missed it, I sincerely apologize. Send it again and I'll see what I can do to help you.

Hi Alice, First, I am honored to get a response from you. Really I am excited. True that you cannot attach the cake to the email and send it across but your warm wises do reach me now. And that feeling (at least for me) is wonderful. I know I might sound ridiculous but yes, I am an emotional guy who gets attached with many people. MyLot has given me and many a place where we share many of our personal feelings, problems and things that normally real friends do. So emotional attachment is somewhere got to happen. If it was a real world, I could have send invites to friends and let them know about the birthday. But on this world, I think many would agree that it is not good manners. So I cannot do that either. Being a webmaster myself and a web programmer(php) I do realize that it is something that is difficult at the point when you have over 2,000,000 accounts to manage and handle. I also agree that the computer generated sent emails are at times cold. But this is what I think I should mention - On every members preferences page you have options that control a lot of things especially emails. Similarly on the edit profile you have a control whether the profile wants to share the DOB or age. I have a suggestion here (technical maybe) - but on the notifications section you can put up whether the profile wants to get emails/reminders of b'days of friends. Thanks again for responding and I hope that the tech team would solve out the issue is given a small gentle push - they too would love this personal touch. Regards, theSids.

You are right. My Lot doesn't do this. They just change your age on your profile page. I didn't know about your birthday. May I wish you a Very, belated birthday. In my family birthdays are very important. It is the one day that is totally yours. I hope you enjoyed your day. I have written down your birthday. I promise next year to be ontime with my birthday wishes!

I guess many don't celebrate birthdays the way we do.I have a friend who's family forgot it was his birthday and he didn't remind them! i thought that was sad! My Lot may never acknowledge birthdays but I Do! So try to calm down about this and have a great day!

Hi Sarah, Thanks for wishing me. And what is more touching is the mention that you have noted down this date and promise me a wish next year. I hope by then something good will happen here and they would start sending emails/reminders to all friends. I had hoped that many would participate in this open letter but the results are saddening to me... Maybe it is only my emotional side that was on a high. Never mind, I got to adapt here and I would. Thanks again for posting and supporting the matter. Have a Great Time, theSids.

That was sad sarah. Family forgetting the birthday.... I wonder how would that have affected me. It is really sad to know. I am happy that the guy didnt remind them, maybe they (the family) would realize their folly and make the coming Birthday something more special. Have a Great Day, Cheers, theSids.

Hi thesids MANY MANY HAPPY RETURNS OF THE DAY....though my wish id about a month belated...i am not feeling guilty as our friendship is just few days old But to tell you seriously Sid (don't know if your username includes any shortened form of your original name) ..but i am using Sid for u ... so to tell you seriously..don't get in habit of getting hurt if someone forgets your birthday...with many ups and downs of life....i have felt and learnt that today if someone is so much concerned for you that she wishes u at 12 am ...right when the day starts...may some day forget u and may not even care to wish u... so before such day comes ...give just a smile and a big thank u who wishes u today and don't expect anything in future...u will be more happy if u get unexpected wishes....Now end of psychology class... now coming to practicality...yes like orkut and some other sites give reminder of your frind's b'day..mylot can also show reminders....only for those who have chosen to show and yes some friends can become happy and share smiles

Hi eshaan, Thanks for your birthday wishes and dont feel guilty about it as it is NOT your fault. Yes, my name is Sid (a shortened version but now it has become my identity on the Internet and I am happy to be known by the name - theSids or Sid.) You can call me Sid and I would be happy. I know that it should not be hurting when friends forget but there is a difference in forgetting and not knowing. No one here on MyLot knows when is the birthday of your friend (unless they take pains to go to the profile and keep a note of it) or you know the person from other sources - a real world friend or a virtual friend from other website or chat. Maybe many dont believe in emotions and sending wishes but I do and so I believe that there would be a few more like me here at MyLot. I would love to wish so many of my friends here at MyLot just because we have been sharing so much personal things between us so why cant we share birthdays? Thanks for your wishes once again and Cheering me up. Take Care and Have a great time, theSids.

i too am like you who likes to wish and also to get wishes...but i feel only for few real ones...not all from the social sites....becoz most of them are for formalities...but yes...you get hurt when someone special doesn't wish you...so i have made a habit to think that who i am that people will wish me...and when you discover on your b'day that for how many u r soooo important...then you feel happy...never keep expectaions Sid...again an advice from someone elder than you ...don't be over emotional or sensitive

Thanks eshaan, to let me know that I am now in that special list of yours. I would be careful about my being over emotional and over sensitive... I know somewhere within that Expectations are not good for me or anyone... But at times, the heart just rules me.

At this time there are over 218,000 members here. It's nice that mylot notifies us by email when a friend starts a discussion or responds to one of our discussions but those emails are in relation to what this site is for...earning by discussing topics. This is not strictly a social site and, in fact, starting discussions that celebrate milestones like birthdays and such are a violation of the guidelines. Happy belated birthday.

Hi spalladino Thanks for wishing me a belated birthday. I knew that this might be against the rules here and also am aware of the fact that the site is more about discussions. But my point is that if they can send us emails related to all the discussions, why not have a feature plugged in so that the users can select to be notified of their friends birthdays? That way we can also extend out friendship in deeper sense of the term. I just want to point this thing out that if there are so many people out here, why not try to bring them more closer - given - if they want to? Thanks for responding to a thread that you believe is a violation and in that case might get removed. Cheers, theSids.

In my opinion, which is sometimes wrong but I give it anyway, (lol) this discussion is not a violation because you did not post it to announce your birthday, which has passed, but to raise a legitimate complaint and to make a legitimate suggestion. I just don't believe that mylot will add the notification you're requesting.

Hi spalladino, Thanks for the update. I know that things on websites are hard to change and also aware that such requests would generally go un-noted. But still, I wanted to try my luck. I believe a better option would have been to email or contact the admin directly because the number of responses recieved till now, indicate that there are many many mylooters who dont want this feature. Thanks again, Cheers, theSids

Hi dear, Belated happy birthday. I agree with you. Some other sites used to send b'day greetings any date, even if given the correct dob. In fact, I don't check the dobs of our friends here in myLot. But, if the company can give a hint on our friends’ birthday, it will expand myLots fame more than what now has. Because, the number of users will increase and the number of discussions also will improve. I think they should do it. Ok, how was the party? Hope you must have celebrated. Best of luck and all good wishes, Regards, Thank-s

Hi dear, Felt so sorry that your whole effort messed up with the unhappy surroundings. However, it is good to know that you find your good time alongwith the orphanage people, which I appreciate your effort on it. As you said, Chaitanya & Alisa are not seen now. Chaitanya may come back, but I am not sure of Alisa. She is like so childish and a student having lots of studies and interests in many things. Once the pleasure and exaggerations end up, she may slowly move away to new things and I hope, she will come back after a break. Hope all are in a good share now. Regards, Thank-s

Hi thanks, Yes, Chaitanya is expecting a baby and so I understand that she would be back but after a long time. And for Alisa, she responded to my PM that she would be back sometime in November and she is occupied with her studies. I expect all my friends to be back soon and rock the MyLot. Cheers, theSids.

Dear Sid.. At the very outset i feel happy to wish u a very very happy birthday... though belated...however it makes no difference..only the happiness ...emotions sent across that matters. Again let me tell u that i joined Mylot pretty accidently...and now it is my most favourite site..i joined Facebook after that and two days back only they reminded me about birthday of one of my friends that falls in the coming week...like that only Mylot can also manage...its my humble suggestion I completly agree with u both in letter & spirit to wish some one on birthdays is the essence of the bonding among people specially between friends be it real or online... once again happy b`day...and lots of luck for every thing in life.

HI Cherry, Welcome to MyLot dear. Thanks for your wishes and support to my point of view. You would find mylot quite interesting and informative. As you might have already realized, it is more about discussions and participation. I hope that you would make many great friends here and it would be real good to see a person with your attitude around. Have A Great Time and Happy MyLotting, Cheers, theSids.

That would be kind of nice if mylot were able to send out automatic happy birthday notifications to their members. Getting a personal one from them would be way to hard with all the users there are. I personally wouldnt care if mylot sent me a happy birthday message unless I got say 5 cents from them as a present. I certainly wouldnt want all the thousands of people on mylot sending me happy bithday messages to my inbox that would just clutter up my inbox.

Hi Tomitomi, You know what, I am quite happy now and the feeling is great. I think that this discussion has helped me reach out to my friends and they have all supported my idea. What more can I expect from them as a gift for my B'Day. Thank you for your sweet support and wishes. I hope that Alice(Admin) would look into this and consider the matter... after all it is to make MyLot more interesting and bringing friends on the virtual world more close. Cheers, theSids.

Hi! Thesids, Happy belated birthday to you. I never notice that your birthday and I don't really use to check friends' profile in mylot. Unless in the FB. At least in FB, you will get notification when you friends' birthday is near. So that we can make wished to the friend. I think if admin can think of this, it will improve the interaction between the member!

Hi Yspml, That exactly is what my point is... There are a lot of social sites and the competition is tough. I know that MyLot has in these years earned its brand name and value, but still these small features can help the site keep update with the modern times and be more fun and humane. After all it is about members and their relations. Thanks for responding to this post. Cheers, theSids.

Thanks Paul, I know its none of your faults - in fact none of my friends fault. It just happened that I want to put this thing up to the admin so that they can think of this side too. I know my friends and the people here at MyLot, if they are aware of someone's birthday who is their friend, they would always stand up and wish even before others think/do. Thank you for your wishes. Cheers, theSids.
