Lot of people like to watch TV relentlessly for hours. I have my neighbors who watch soap opera daily for 6-7 hours, but from a safe distance. Whereas I can't watch for that long cos I start feeling pain in my head. So why don't they feel the problem? Whenever I ask them they advise me to watch from a safe distance. Do you think watching TV for 6-7 hours a day is bad for eyes even from a safe distance?

Yes, I would think so, especially if the TV screen gets very glaring. I don't watch TV that many hours, but I work on the computer many hours a day. So, I am comparing the TV with the computer. I keep a glare protection screen on the monitor to reduce the glare. That's better for the eyes.

I watch my TV from a distance of about 7 metres but I have my laptop screen less than a metre away for more than 10 hours a day usually. I wear glasses now but I don't think these things have had an abnormal affect on my eyes.

In the older days, watching TV for long time is harmful. However, I think with the improved technology of today, it may not be so, as long as we take care to relax our eyes every few seconds after maybe 30 minutes glued to the screen. It is same logic as when I am in front of the computer.

Yes!!! I think that sitting in front of a television staring at a screen for up to seven hours a day is probably terrible for your eyes. It's probably also pretty bad for your brain and I can tell you one thing for sure, that it's terrible for your creativity and imagination. When you are staring at scenes unfold you are trying to focus on what's going on instead of just thinking. I feel like a lot of the new technology we have is going to slowly drain us all of our creativity and our drive to make the world a better place or to try and improve life overall the best we can. We can only hope that we don't become more addicted and reliant on technology for the future or I feel the world will become an even duller place, filled with people vegging out staring at a screen for "entertainment".

I think watching TV in 2 to 3 hours is enough. Watching TV in 7 hours is a kind of abuse to yourself. As you ask if watching TV in the longer hour. I think it is depend on what you feel when watching TV. But for me watching TV in that longer hour will be pain to my eyes...

I think watching TV is far better than staring at the computer for 6-7 hours. Basically we watch TV is a further distance than we watch computer. Furthermore, usually we won't be staring the whole 6-7 hours on the TV as sometimes, we will do something else at the same time when we watch TV. For example, folding the cloths or eating etc which unlike computer which we stare at it without stop for long hours. Anyway, we all know TV/computer or other electrical appliances contains radiation and too much of it is not good for our health. If possible, don't watch TV for that long hours instead, take a few minutes rest after each 1 hour or so would be better than watching TV the whole day through. Have a nice day!

of course. there's no doubt about that. it's harmful to our eyes if we continuously staring at something without stop. when we are watching television, we often forget to wink or take a rest every hour, especially when the program captures all our attention. it makes no difference even if you watch it in distance. that's why we're frequently suggested to take a break after sometime. most of the jobs nowadays required to be done via a computer which has alreday brought a lot of harm to our eyes. more and more people are suffering from eye sore. so why don't we try to protect our eyes when watching television?

Hi Jackroy, I actually think watching tv for 7 hours per day everyday is bad for more than the eye. If you think about it, that is one good portion of your day. Say you sleep for 8 hours. That leaves 16 hours and if 7 of it is sitting and watching tv then that leaves 9 hours. Now obviously some of that time will be spent on the computer, taking a shower, eating...working. Hopefully he/she has a physical job so that there is some activity going on. It just is not good for the body, the spirit or anything to sit for 7 hours staring at a screen. I don't even know how one can do that....can't relate. I have a soap that I watch and I don't watch it every day...just when I'm here and nothing else to do ...it's my break time. I sometimes catch the news or watch a movie. I don't watch 7 hours of tv in a week and I don't know how anyone could do it in a day! your friend needs some serious motivation.

I think so. It's the same with computers. When we look at it for too long, we'll strain our eyes. It's the same with TV. Moreover you've been watching it for so many hours. Cut down on TV a bit and it'll help you.

yes it is, because the capacity only of watching TV for the eye is only 3hours. it can cause you a headache, you can feel your the tear in your eyes if you watch that long. my advice only is just watch for only 2-3hours. or else you can have an eye problem. you cannot see clearly.

Maybe it is too bad for the eyes the eyes need to rest at least 30 minutes after 2 hours of watching television.

I think it is bad on the eyes to watch it continuously for 7 hours but most people get up and get something to eat or use the restroom or do other things so they are not really using it for 7 hours straight without looking away. But if you are planning on watching tv for that long, definitely keep your distance from the screen.

Yes, not just eyes but your health in general. Some expert link this with obesity. We should be active and let the sweat flows.

Yes, i think so because i think our eyes needs also a rest for us to maintain our good sense of seeing. But some are abusing their eyes especially the teenagers like me but i maintain a good rest for my eyes.

Watching TV for 7 hours everyday is quite a long time. As you know, most people work for 8 hours a day. And try to imagine you watch TV for 7 hours but do nothing. This can be tiring, too. And it is harmful for your eyesight because your eyes can't take a break. I love China

I heard that vision gets bad because of the constant distance of focus on one thing. I heard that if you rotate your distance at intervals(look at the starts then look at the tip of your nose, then the tv), your eyes don't get as bad.. but also it comes from your DNA too.

I agree watching TV for 6-7 hours a day is bad for the eyes. But when one has no money what else is there to do? TV is the only free pleasure around.

Of course Jack, watching television for almost 7 hours straight is not good us not only for our eyes but also for our health. Study shows that watching television only 2-3 hours a day not straight in watching. Yeah it is really bad for our eyes.

I do noitice my eyes are getting weaker too maybe it because of old age and I am in my forties now where everyrthing shifts in the body for a lady or man. Thanks and have a great day! Of course it is. People who spend more than four hours in front of tv each day have a far higher risk of dying early than those who limit their viewing (Australian Study). That means we have to take care in how much tv we are watching.
