Can we keep the spirits clean?

Do you think a politically correct politician would say this: "It means all the world to us to know that there are prayer circles out there and people who are keeping the spirits clean around us" The reference to prayer and prayer circles is not too big of a deal. We have all heard of that and know that it can be as generic as talking to your shoes. But what is this business about "keeping the spirits clean around us"? Does that seem a little extreme to you? A little over the edge for a politician? What if I told you it was a quote from Sarah Palin or Christine O'Donnell? You would believe me and then proceed to make a huge stink about it. Actually it is from Michelle Obama just recently and apparently everyone is cool with that. This is the double standard that is evident everyday in America. By the way, do democrat spirits tend to be dirty? You can listen to the clip here: http://www.realclearpolitics.com/video/2010/10/13/michelle_obama_it_means_the_world_that_there_are_prayer_circles_out_there.html

This computer does not work as good, so I will go on the laptop and listen to it. It sounds like a New Age philosophy. Pray Circles are rather Native American (and Native Canadian although many of them up here are Roman Catholic). Actually I do not think that there would be a stink if Sarah Palin or Christine O'Donnell made it. It would be a stink if they said that "it means all the world to us to know there are Christians praying and that Jesus Christ is looking down from heaven." As I said it sounds like they are invoking the gods and spirits of the New Age and are not spirits stronger then people? So maybe the democrats think that they are god and maybe Michell thinks that she is a goddess.

That would make Barack Hussein Obama II (Steve) he supreme being, of course!

He sometimes act as if he is the supreme being or as Hannity says "the anointed one." Of course, all that is untrue since he is not God or even a god. But they did say in the Bible that things like that would happen.

Michelle Obama isn't a politician, she's the WIFE of a politician! I know, sometimes politicians' spouses end up running for office themselves, but that hasn't yet happened with Michelle. Anyway, I can't read Mrs. Obama's mind but I would guess she was more or less thanking those who were praying for her and her family, maybe that's what she meant about "keeping the spirits clean around us"? Maybe it's a saying from her personal religious background? I wouldn't make a "huge stink" out of it if Palin or O'Donnell said something like that, depending of course on the context. Do Democratic spirits tend to be dirty? Who knows, probably some are dirty and some are clean, same as with Republicans! David Vitter, John Ensign, Mark Sanford and Newt Gingrich probably have very FILTHY spirits...lol...as does John Edwards, I'm sure. See, there I'm being bipartisan! Annie

You're right your bipartisan, way too bipartisan to survive in Washington. I figured someone would make the point that Michelle isn't a politician, but she is awful close. I could guess what she is saying, but not really understanding her religious background (other than the part Rev. Jeremiah Write focused on), it would not be a good idea. Shouldn't someone have asked her? Maybe because it sounds like a religious statement, they knew to leave it alone. Really, you could only come up with one democrat. I think you are holding out on us!

It may be a religious statement, but it's not a Christian religion statement. Spirits are either clean or unclean, and unclean spirits are demonic. Reference the New Testament and see how Jesus spoke about unclean spirits. On the other hand, "spirit cleaning" might be one of those new government jobs they saved or created...

It's certainly freaky and not standard terminology in Christianity. Unclean spirits are demonic in the Bible and Jesus cast them out, He didn't "keep them clean". It might make sense if she had said that people were praying the evil spirits away from them, but that might catch the attention of even the most devout Obama followers. Or maybe not. Maybe they believe in evil spirits with R's after their names. There was a rumor that Michelle's mom practices Santeria. I do not know of anyone producing evidence of this and it was probably just one of those gossipy rumors that are not true, but I will say that this particular turn of phrase sounds more like the terminology of Santeria than mainstream Christianity. If O'Donnell or Palin said it, the leftist media would be filled with snickers, jeers and conjecture. It would not be so completely overlooked.

I think I would guess it had to do with keeping evil spirits away. Thanks for acknowledging that if a conservative had made the same statement, the press would have been chewing on it for a few days.
