Do you believe the saying that "No gets rich from being an employee"?

A lot of people say that No one gets rich from being an employee but most of them are employees so you can really see the discontent that these people have about their jobs. Anyway, I somehow believe this quote but I suggest to all employees not to quit their job right away but instead try to look for alternative ways of earning money and not to rely entirely on their salaries while in their jobs because if you really think about it the richest people on earth are the innovators and the businessmen.

In general terms, that is so true. I haven't known one who is an employee for the rest of his or her life and became very wealthy. However, these days, there are employees who are rich as they jump from being an employee to being an investor and business owner. I myself is an employee and based on my fixed salary, I will never be rich. That is the reason why I am also looking for other ways to become an investor and business owner.

Thats right. You should try investing your money in mutual fund or share market. It will give you good returns in short term basis and in long term (if you are smart enough to buy good company shares) you can get huge profit, which will help you a lot in your retired life.

I agree that generally no one gets rich from being an employee. There are exceptions though like the CEOs of companies. However, the chances of an employee being a CEO in a really successful company is very slim which is why employees should look for other ways to earn income aside from their jobs.

I agree with what you said that a lot of people fail in businesses to which is why I proposed in this discussion to not give up the job immediately so in case the business endeavor fails, the job is still there to fallback to. Most of the time, the Plan B is one of the best preparations when venturing into a business.

Hi there! I also heard about that thing so many times, in fact I also mentioned that line for several times already. Its somewhat hard to be an employee because aside from having a boss, you're also having a fix income. You will surely have something to spend for you have something to look forward too and that is your salary, but that's it. That is fix, you do not have something to spend for much bigger spendings that you wanted or needed in excess to your fixed salary. Ive known someone who gets rich from being an employee but she slowly detached herself from being employed when she saw that her business progressed. That I guess should be our mind set. To look for our nich and start looking for something that could make us wealthy, Good night!

I think that is right. Besides of being an employee, we should be generating money from somewhere else (investments), then we can be rich.

Aside from investments, I am actually looking for ways that I can also earn online passively and be rich. lol. I have just started and I have made a couple of bucks but unfortunately it has not reach an amount where I can say that I have truly made money online.

this is true. but not all business endeavors succeed also. so your advise is right. do not be contecty of just being an employee but do not jump ship if you dont have a raft at least. we should always have a back up plan.

Actually, I already have a back up plan. I have a diversified portfolio which range from stocks, cooperatives and mutual funds. I also have a 6 months salary for my emergency fund so in case I lose my job, I will not panic because I have something to fallback to.

I think there is truth to this, but I think that it is possible to get rich by being an employee, if you are very clever, save for a long time and also get bonuses etc. But it is for sure much harder than if you have your own business. Other than that, I agree with what you said!

Thanks for responding. I am actually speaking generally when I first thought of this discussion but most of the time the employees that became rich are the ones who saved up and invested the money that they earned through the years so the concept is somehow similar.

Well it all depends on what your job is and if you are moving forward in that place of employment, I have heard of self made millionaires, I haven;t heard of anyone geting rich from being an employee, but I think it can be possible, depending on the person and the motivation they have to succeeed.

I do believe in this quote, if you are a regular employee, you will definitely will not get rich. The salary is very low, not enough to make a decent living. However, if your position is very strong and you receive a very high salary, obviously you will get rich. But to sum it up, you can only get rich if you have a good business or you will win in lottery .

If you are the boss, you make money even when you're not working, because your employees are making money for you. It is worth it to be an employee long enough to save the money to buy profit-generating assets. Once you own things that make money for you, you don't have to work!

hi lea! when i was in college, i can clearly remember my economics teacher telling us all not to be employees but we must all be employers of our own businesses , every single class .. he kept on reminding us this and till now i can still hear his voice inside my head. but even though he kept telling us this, at the back of my mind , and this was 5 years ago.. i still want to be an employee.. and i want to work in a bank. i got what i want now.. and i admit, it's not easy being rich if you're just relying on your salary every 15th and 30th.. not if you have many bills to pay, like rent, food, credit cards and such , just like me. :) i'm experiencing this. this is why i'm looking for some alternatives in earning extra cash, but not trying to leave the company i'm working, i already got used in seeing my co-workers each day and they're like a family to me. of course we talk about stuff like this in our office all the time, just like you and your officemates do, but deep in our hearts we're already contented of our jobs and we find ourselves lucky compared to others who do not have a stable job. :)

Of course it depends on how much you earn and spend. But the fastest way to reach a particular amount is to venture into businesses or try short and/or long term investments. I'd rather set my target amount so that I can grow it rather than setting my mind of how to be rich. Why am I saying this? When you do the math, you are expanding your thoughts and ways on how to do it. And I think this is common among those who earn from their monthly paychecks alone, they just keep on dreaming of multiplying zeros at the end of their paycheck's digits.
