Police, Please Step Back into your House

That was what I heard tonight as I was going outside to let the dogs in for the night. Needless to say it has been a very strange night around here. It started when our friend came over for a little bit after work and made the comment that there were two SUVs parked in front of the empty house beside ours. Well, we heard a lot of people in the bushes and thought it was some kids partying or something (we live at the end of a court). Regardless, we knew that it wasn't right and my husband took my zoom lens and took pictures of the license plates. Then I went to let the dogs in a few minutes later and there were police officers in my next door neighbors back yard who told me to go back into my house. Well, I called the non-emergency number for our police department and gave them the two license plate numbers because I knew that it could be helpful to them. Still, I have to admit that I am somewhat scared to go to sleep tonight because I don't know what is going on. To make this a discussion, have you ever reported something to the police that just didn't seem right that was happening around where you live? Do you typically feel safe about the place where you live?

I did have a situation in my first neighborhood where a boy went into my neighbor's yard and started annoying his dogs. I called the police, but he was gone before we even got off the phone.

Hey, do you think that I can call the cops on the annoying neighbor of mine that is always bothering my dogs?

Does sticking a rake through my gate count?

I really don't think there is such a think as a safe place to live. Yes, you might live in a place that appears to be safe and in a town where there is little crime, however, who is to say that even in the safest of neighborhoods that someone from another town doesn't come in to your town to rob a house, commit a rape, kill someone. You just never know anymore. I don't think anyone really can say that they life in a totally safe area anymore. Did you ever find out what had happened next door to you?

I really don't think that there is such a place as a safe place to live anymore either. As far as what happened in the yard next door to ours, one of the suspects of a robbery attempt was pulled from under his deck and arrested in his back yard. There were, however 10-14 people involved in the robbery attempt that were able to get away.

Did you find out what was going on?? With stuff like that I'm almost more curious than scared. I've had to call the police a few times on strange stuff. The first time that comes to mind was when I was living in my first apartment by myself. I was leaving and noticed a man passed out on his first floor balcony. He had obviously peed his pants and it was about -10 celsius. I wasn't sure what to do so I knocked on that apartment's door, no one answered. I tried the landlord's door too and no one was there. Finally I called 911 because I really didn't know what else to do. We decided to sit and wait in the car just to see how long it would take them to get there and after about 15 minutes we gave up. I'm sure they finally came and scraped the drunk off his balcony but I couldn't believe how long it took!

It was from a break in attempt at a local business. Neighbors of the business called the police when they saw people with flashlights over there. Our best guess is that the two SUVs here were the get away vehicles. They arrested two suspects on our street, one of them hiding under the next door neighbors deck.

I don't think that I would have reported this if it hadn't been for the fact that I knew the police were investigating something that was right around here at the same time that we snapped the photos of the two license plates.

Hello dora. nothing to be worry about because the police is in there so, I think your family is safety. I experienced that before too, and I am scared too but now, when something happened like that, I am braver now because i know that people never hurt us if we are not doing bad to them.

I don't know that it is true that other people won't hurt us if we aren't doing anything wrong to them. However, it did put me at ease that the police were on duty and near here when all of this was going down.

We're lucky that the place we live is pretty safe. I'm sure that the couple that lives 4 doors down are both police officers. And I think the lady that just moved in next door is also a cop because she knows the couple and she has the same habits as the cops. Anyway, needless to say, I've never seen anything suspicious right about where we live.

I believe that there is something about having a cop car parked on your street that makes living where you do a safer place. My mother has a sherrif that lives two doors down from her and I think it has made a difference in their neighborhood.

oh...that's a it scary...though its not wrong to give anything suspicious to police but yes...we all are scared of going to the police stations if at all the police call us there for some inquiries...also we are afraid of some threatening etc we might get from the people involved...but luckily for me...no such thing has happened in my life...all outside matters are handled by my hubby...so i just hear on phones if something has happened near his office or on the roads..he is talking about...but we are still lucky not to be troubled by any such matter seriously

You really are lucky that you've not had to deal with something like this. It really freaked me out to know that there was something going on in our neighborhood because it has been nothing but quiet except for that night in the time that we've lived here.

I get nervous about reporting things. Usually not much happens around here thankfully. However, we have some renters on the end of our block who used to throw drinking parties 2-3x a week and block up our road with their cars. I did call one night as my windows were closed and I could hear them yelling out in the road in the wee hours. And as a matter of fact I made a discussion on here about if I should call or not ;0) Have you heard anything as to what was going on?

It was actually the aftermath of a failed robbery attempt at a business that is a few blocks away from our house. Two of the suspects were arrested (one of them in my next door neighbor's back yard), however, there were about a dozen people that were able to get away.

this happened in the last apartment complex we lived in before we were evicted. I was my lotting on my computer when the police helicopter kept hovering over our apt. and flashing lights into the lane beside out apartment. then I heard police whistles and dogs barking. There were about ten police officers going in and out of the shrubbery with flashlights and I finally got too curious. I went out in the walkway and was told politely to stay in my apartment. There were deputy sherrifs too as were just over the city line and usually in an emergency we were to phone the sheriff department not the Tustin police. My son came home only to be kept out of the complex until they gathered up the police dogs. They were looking for three men who had robbed a bank d owntown and they were told someone had seen them in ou r complex. That was a bit silly as it was a gated complex with pedestrian gate and car gate both keyed. so how did they get in? Finally they let my son in and he made me lock the door after him, what is so odd is the whole thing was never in the papers so we only had what the ond deputy sheriff had told my son.So I never did know all the particulars of that night. It was a huge complex built on a hilly p ice of land with one hundred twenty various apartments and townhouses. Could be of course that the men did get in there and someone helped them to escape but it never did come up in the local papers.

This event that occurred here did show up in the newspaper and also on all three of our local news channels. It was a failed robbery attempt that ended up with the police looking for the more than a dozen suspects in the robbery attempt.

Scary.. better watch the news to see what's going on. Overall I do feel safe where we are. I never lock my doors or anything. I do not worry if I have to leave my kids in the car while I run into a gas station or something (I mean let's face it, who wants to get 2 little ones in and out of car seats if I'm just running in to pay for gas?). I know there is crime and trouble everywhere, and even though all my neighbors aren't the best kinds of people, I still do not worry about there being any sort of major crime in my area. The only times we've ever called police is when we thought we heard a really bad domestic dispute. That's been twice. Two different couples. Nothing happened with either, apparently they were just loud, but not violent.. or the women wouldn't press charges, who knows. After the 2nd one we felt sort of silly for calling the cops when it wasn't as bad as it looked, so we vowed we weren't doing that again.. we're going to keep our noses to ourselves unless we see the abuse with our own eyes.

Yes, I have reported things a few times around here. One was a truck that was parked in the church driveway two houses down. I called it in, told them the color of the truck and what it looked like. The next morning they were caught in a gas station with most of the mowers that were taken from the neighbors. Oh got one for you, I was on my computer one night and I thought I heard my car door shut on my car. I got up went out the front door to find two people trying to steal my car. they were trying to push it out of the driveway. All I can say is if I didn't go outside that night my car would of been gone. I feel these things happen most anywhere now days. With the economy the way it is, the harder it gets to even buy groceries for our home we are going to have more and more of this no matter where you live. We just make sure things are locked down, oh and at night the car tires are turned in one direction all the way and make sure the steering wheel is locked when car is turned off. This way if they try and push it again the car will go in circles for them. Unless they figure out how to start it without someone or my dog hearing them..

I've never had someone attempt to steal my car. However, that isn't to say that there has never been a time when one of our cars has been broken into. When my daughter was a baby, I was feeding her during the middle of the night and I saw a car going slowly down the road. It was someone that was letting people out of the car and they were checking doors on the cars parked on the road and were stealing change and things like that out of cars.

Firstly..... what fears come to you. It is right that you are suspicious that something wrong was happening there. Secondly.... as you said police officers are there, so it was their duty to give you the proper information on what was occurring there. Day by day situation is going tougher. New threat come to the life from different factor. It is a very vivid question ... are we really safe, where are we dwelling?

I have to admit that I mostly do feel safe with the living situation that we have. In fact, though it did scare me that the police told me to get back into my house, I was at ease with the fact that they were there so quickly to take care of the issue that was at hand.

yes, friend .i agree with you.in our country. that's general for this kind of things . and so many bad things happen time and time. but police dont care about it. sometimes they just stay around the spot where is fighting . i feel they are just brave when the good things happen to them . so bad for this. so sometimes i won't phone police when i get something bad around.

Well, I tend to feel like the police around here do a good job with their work. However, it is also scary when you know that there is an investigation literally in your backyard and in your neighbor's yard.
