Being Transferred...

Fraustrations - Fraustration and disappointment at work

I was just notified yesterday, after being in my current position for more than 10 years under my employer that I was being transferred to another department, without no notificiation or heads up. The memo just basically said the following personnel are being transferred. It wasn't even given out by the command staff, it was e-mailed at 4PM right before it was time for people to go home. How incredible is that. That said part is I have seniority over alot of other people and they aren't be touched or effected. I personally don't think it's fair, that you put in all your hard work and dedication and all you get a memo via e-mail. The funny part is all these transfers are going into affect the beginning of next month at the same time, meaning when I move into the other position, I will have no one to train me on what I have to do and what needs to be done. I will be totally clueless. Right now I am so disappointed and upset they way they the people from above have approached this situation? What do you think?

Aw, that is really not fair. Did you do something against the company? Did you annoy your supervisor? I the transfer get you to a higher position? Is there someone new to replace you? Sometimes, supervisor get bored with his/her subordinate and suggested to the company a new person who may lack of knowledge and experience but young and fresh and can be modeled into his/her need. I am sorry to hear this. You just have to learn by yourself and show the company that you are able to work anywhere the company wants.

Actually the transfer came as a complete shock to me and my direct supervisor. My supervisor is actually doing everything in his power to keep me here. No one was aware of these transfers. The transfer requests were made, but there is no one coming to replace my position, in other words he's not going to have an assistant anymore. That's what we find so odd, we are hoping it was an error, we just have to wait and see what the response is.

i think it is very unfair ,only a e-mail not a formal document ,maybe it is not in accord with the related laws .the reason why transferring you is not clear , so maybe you just ask some legal aid ,or talk with employer to make it clear ,sometimes this will affect the working enthusiasm .

My direct superivosr is talking to his chain of command as to why those changes have occurred and why they choose me I am hoping that by the end of this week or beginning of next week I will have a response. Unfortunately there isn't much I could do legally, they only thing going for me is my seniority that's about it. So we'll just have to see.

Hi Fabsprecious, Wow! that does not sound like a very smart business move at all. My guess would be that it might have something to do with the economy or something. There are a lot of lay-offs going on everywhere and so I would say that this is better than being laid off. I don't understand the lack of training. That can't be good. Still it is better than being without a job.

It definitely is because of that, this company has experienced alot of job losses within the last month and what they are tryinng to do is reorganize and move positions were they are more necessary. But they way they approached this situation wasn't nice at all, I don't personally don't think it should have been done by e-mail, these type of things are better handled in person face to face with the affected personnel.

I would be upset as well and i can't believe they wouldnt even tell you in face but than again email is the thing that gets everyone and its used all day by so many people while they work and some people its all they do all day. Sorry to hear about this but you should be ok and at least you have a job rightnow in this hard economic time. My friend the other week got her entire desk moved into another department at her job as well and she was so disappointed as well and she was looking for a way to move her desk back to where it was LOL. I know she as well didnt want to move and she wasnt sure what to do when she moved but then im guessing she got adjusted to her new job at the same place.

Your right e-mail is definitely considered the way to communicate now a days, but I personally feel that there are some things you need to do in person, especially as management. These are people that work for you, wouldn't you want to keep up your moral in your work enviornment by keeping your people happy. At least that's my personal opinion. I am sorry to hear about your friend, I know exactly the way she is feeling right now. I have been working under the same supervisor for 10 years, and this person is the best to work for. And he is fighting for me to see hear with all his power, god bless his heart. But you know what there's only so much he can do, I don't want him to jeopardize his position either. My fear from moving is, that I don't know where I am going and what I will be doing. So let's see what happens. Thank you for your comment...

I see this as something to be thankful for. You still have your job and still part of the company. Maybe you have something in you that the company can benefit from. You may see it as something bad for your career because of how the memo was done but, you can also see it as a challenge on your part to do better and live up to the expectations of those who are above you. Change is a good thing, you just have to accept it. I believe you still have time to study your new assignment. Instead of dwelling in this heartbreaking memo, why not start gathering all the information you would need to be up and running for the new assignment. Hope this helps..

Thank you for those inspiring words, it is greatly appreciated and needed. My husband says the same thing. And I have started looking at in that prespective. It's true I still have a job, same classification as well as pay, so it should be a blessing compare to others that have lost their job in its entirety. Again thank you!!!

I am so sorry to hear that, I know it's difficult. Some people have told me look at it in a good way, and I know I should but it's 10 years that I have put all my hard work and dedication, when I was put in this position, I had to learn everything by myself, I was never trained. And to think that now I am gonna go into the same situation is really disappointing.

I agree with you, it seems very strange and frustraiting to receive such news over the email. I don't understand the people in charge, why it is so hard for them to make a meeting and tell the news directly. So that people can ask questions and understand more about what is going to happen. Don't be upset though and don't take it personally.

Wow. That seems like a really weird thing for your company to be doing. Why would they do that without ASKING you? Or why wouldn't they transfer the people with less experience under their belts? How confusing. Well, is the position better pay? More hours? Is it kind of like receiving a promotion? In which case perhpas it should be something you should be happy about..?

It the same exact position and same pay, but another department. Basically meaning I will be under new supervision and a different type of workload. Our company is currently reorganizing the table of organization and moving people around due to cuts and mergers, so that's how the transfer evolved. I just hope it gets better.

This is what I can't stand about corporate america. They have not a bit of consideraton or care for their employees. They only care about the money they are making. All your dedication and hard work is never taken into consideration. This is what causes low morale and disgruntal employees. If you treat your employees with respect people will be happy to go to work and you will get better work production from them. As for you, after 10 years they should have given you the respect of asking you if you would like this transfer and letting you decide. I worked in corporate america for 32 years and the politics and BS is horrible and I'm glad I'm out of it. Good luck in your position.

Thank you for you opinion, you are correct the politics and BS that is horrible. It seems like the big people only watch out for them and the little ones are the ones that have to suffer. This reorganization with the company is really decreasing the people moral, people are coming to work fearing that they may not have a job or are going to be transferred including demoted. I just hope it gets better sooner than later.

At first, you may make an appeal to this matter. Secondly, if there is an increment in salary then you are encouraged to accept this new post of transfer. It is not bad to accept the offer if it is an emergency replacement in which need you to assist in such situation of urgent.
