Do you like to work out?

I use to be a work out junkie back in 2000. I was slightly over weight and was determined by prom time to be slim and trim. I did it. I worked out at least 6 hrs a day after school and I was also a full time dance student which I had classes 4 to 5 times a week for 3 hours maybe 5 hours a time. I dropped between 70-80lbs by 2001 and actually kept it off for years. Come 2005 my girlfriend went away for work where she was gone for 5 1/2 months where I actually put on about 20 to 30lbs. Since then I have been in a struggle to lose weight when gaining it and I usually lose weight pretty easy with no big hassle. But now, 2010, I seem to be having a harder time. I lost my job 8 months ago and since then I have put on about 25lbs and cant seem to get it off. No matter what I eat, if I exercise or not; nothing seems to work. In the last 2 months or so I have completely given up and became a couch potato. So what are your favorite work outs to slim your belly and tone you legs? Those are my areas. If i have some suggestions from you guys maybe I can get up off my bum and actually get back into shape. Thanks in advance!

Aww, I know how you feel. I've been trying like hell to get in some workout time myself. I gained.. like 30 pounds over the course of the past ~5 years. And I would like to get rid of the 30 pounds and then everything would be great. Agh! I could never work out for 6 hours a day though. That would be overkill for me, not to mention I'm pretty out of shape so it just wouldn't work. Drinking a lot of water helps and cutting out sweets, soda, and junk food. I've lost like 4 pounds in the past month (ha ha, pathetic, but at least it's something) from quitting pop and walking about once a week. I'm pretty lazy and that's my problem. My favorite kind of exercise, though.. is anything you can do while you're outside. I went "nature hiking" last sunday for 2 1/2 hours and I was BEAT but it felt great afterwards. Anyway, I'm sure things will turn around, especially if you land another job soon. I find that exciting new changes in your life can sometimes prompt you to start taking better care of yourself.

I agree. When I was working I was always on the move, I kept weight off well then. Since I've been out of work its been a bit stressful and depressing. So since I am starting new work next week, I am looking forward to starting a new routine and get myself back to myself again. Thanks so much!

My girlfriend always think her was too fat,and ask me again and again what she can do.The suggustion of my is simply: do more sport like running. As we all know you must make a goal and a plan. Then you just do as your plan.It seems easy, but realy difficult.Never give up!

Thank you so much. The good thing is is that my g/f is willing to be my supporter. She is going to work out with me. So that is motivating. But running...yes, I will definitely invent in that. Thanks so much!

I tend to go through phases when it comes to working out. I will have times where all I think about is working out and getting in shape. other times I don't even like to exercise. I wish I could find a happy medium between the two extremes.

That's kind of like myself. If I could find a healthy medium I think I would shed some pounds as well as be health. Good luck in finding your medium!

I always go to fitness gym 3 times a week after work. I only spend 1 to 1 1/2 hours to complete my workout routine. 30 minutes of treadmill, 30 minutes workout for my biceps, triceps, shoulders and chest. And my remaining time I worked for my legs and belly.

Last time I used to go to my local gym and work out about 2 days a week. I remember that period I was a total gym geek. But now, due to me playing badminton 4 days a week, I can't go to gym. At most I do work outs at home but now, I seldom work out anymore.

Well I've heard that your metabolism gets slower as we get older, so try eating healthier and smaller portions more often. You could try a new sport so exercise doesn't seem like you're exercising. Running, swimming, lots of cardio to boost your metabolism really helps. Just get up and do something instead of sitting in your couch that should really make a difference, not right away but little by little your start noticing some changes, just hang in there and don't give up on yourself. Good Luck!

Your situation isn't that hard actually, compare to some of the costumers in my gym. The way i see it all you need is motivation and discipline. As a gym owner and a bodybuilder, i will give you some simple advice to get you on track again. 1. I recommend you set a goal for yourself, either you go for a slim body or just to lose few weights, whatever you desire. 2. Set a due date for your goal, like "2 months i will cut 20lbs or in 1 year i'll get the slimmest body I've ever had". This will give you more motivation. 3. Set your activity, are you gunning for a gym workout or just a runner type style? There are lots of ways to cut weight and cutting weight ids different from building muscle. If you're just cutting weight it isn't that recommended to go to the gym everyday. You'll have to go for running and for me this is the best way of cutting weight. If in case you're not the runner type then you can shift into swimming. But still not into swimming then gym is your last option. 4. Set goals. If your into running, if you get to run 2-3K for the first run then do it for a week, the following weeks add 1-2K per week. Just like in swimming you need to increase your swimming distance every week. As for the gym, you don't need to increase the weight you are lifting. If you're aiming for a slim body you need to lift light weights not unless you want some muscles build up on your body. All of the 3 types of workout needs to start with a warm-up and stretching. Workouts in the gym doesn't need to be 6hours, that would be too much. There's a study that the most effective workout duration is just 45 minutes, exceeding this will result to less gain of muscle or reduce less weight. But as for my experience it is really hard just to make it for just 45 minutes, you can set it for just 1-1.5 hours. Try not to rest more than 1minute every sets interval or exercise. There will only be one problem for that, stress or body ache. This is the problem of almost all of the people who train. Just remember never give up, "no pain, no gain". Good luck!

I walk only for about a 1/2 hr a day with my dog. That usually is a work out because where I live its a lot of hills. But starting this Sunday I will be engaging in a new routine. I need to be to work by 10am each day starting next week so I will be waking up at 7am to do an hour worth of working out in my home before work. After work I will be working in the gym with my g/f who is very exercise savvy may I add. Going grocery shopping this weekend with a list of healthy alternative food options instead of the junk I usually eat. Looking to at least drop 10lbs by Christmas. Thank you for your detail response. I will use it well.
