You hate mosquitoes, but mosquitoes love you! Now that's a big problem.
I read that lavander are a natural insect repellent. So if you are washing your clothes try a lavander scented cloth conditioner. There are also lavander lotions available in the market. You could also try lavander scented soap. I have tried lavander and it definitely works for me.

I lived in New Mexico for 3 years and was never bitten there because they don't have mosquitos. When I moved to Puerto Rico almost 5 months ago they attacked me like crazy. First it was my legs then my arms. I just got bitten again two days ago and I now again have 4 or 5 bites that keep itching me. I have never been through such craziness before. I can't where long sleaves during the day its just to hot. I have tried the Off cream and spray but it doesn't help at all. However, I think if you don't use perfumes or lotions they may stay away. I heard that Avon's Skin so soft oil is suppose to keep them away. I brought the stuff and of course it didn't help at all. I will try to wash my clothes in lavender and see how that works for me. I heard that you need to use repellents that have 30% to 50% DEET in them. This will help keep them away. The higher the DEET percentage the better protection. I have to check this out myself. Good luck to you.

I do not think vanilla is a good mosquito repellant, although there are many plants out there that are good repellants, lemon grass (tanglad) it's the easiest to find in our country. Pound the leaves and roots with a mortar and pistle and put it in an oil base like coconut oil, let it stand for a day or two and you already have a good mosquito repellant . Just make sure you are not also allergic to certain plants as well, the best thing to do is do a skin test, get a small amount of any concoction you make and rub it in a small portion of your skin, observe for any allergic reaction. Good luck

Although it would be nice if there were no mosquitoes making them extinct would alter the balance of the eco-system (food chain) cause a lot of animal life that are dependent on them for food like spiders , lizards, frogs, species of birds to name a few will also go extinct. Maybe the name of the game is just to lessen the population to reduce the risk of a bite on humans
