Second Life - 3D Virtual World does it pays?

Have you heard about Second Life - 3D Virtual World, where you can avatar, connect with friends, chat and get paid? I was wondering how to earn Linden since I'm a newbie and don't know how to earn there.
Can you tell me how to dress up my avatar and how to earn Linden, it's hard to earn because until now I don't have any earnings there... :(
