How would you rate yourself, an optimist or pessimist. I think I would say I am a mix of both. Mostly I try and see the good side of life and thank God for it, but I tend to also think the worst at times, thinking of the black side or what could happen if this or that did not happen. I have tried to see the positive side of life, but many a times I have failed. What about you guys ?

I don't like to classify myself like that. We have to have both the qualities in life, especially if you are the head of the family or an organization. One has to weigh both the pros and cons and hence he/ she has to be both pessimistic and optimistic.
Remember, while the optimist invents the airplane, the pessimists invented the parachute.

Yes, I do agree with you. I too am both, depending on the circumstances. I wonder why an optimist would invert the plane, is it to see whether he can still be seated ? Its funny actually. I do not look very positive when there is a solution. If things work out, great. If I over estimate, then I feel let down. Its like that. So I guess, the situation is the key.

That is it! Expectation plays a major role in our moods. If it is a normal day today thing we don't have any optimistic/ pessimistic views on it. Only if it is a new thing or great event, we become tense and take either side. We day dream or drive all others crazy depending on our stand. Either way, it is the over reaction that disturbs us and others.

Hi ketybhagat, me too tend to be a person of optimist mixed with pessimist. To be frankly I couldn't be a optimist fully all the time though I try hard to be. Life won't go smoothly all the time. There is time we might encounter certain difficulties or unfortunate and sad events which cause us to sink in the depth of despair.
I do would feel depressed and seem like having no hope toward life when I come across any severe hard to resolve problem. Luckily that I'm an optimist and always hope for the best and don't give up easily. The support and encouragement as well as warm comfort given by my loved ones, and also saying prayer to God to help me to go through the hot water finally
Take care and happy posting

Hi lkbooi, yes, its the situations in life that really make us what we are on that particular day. There are times when everything looks hunky dory and then, whoom, its all black. So, I guess its the trivas of life which govern our reaction. I usually do not look very positively to things, though I do hope things will work out the way I want, so that if it does, I feel happy, otherwise its a big let down. As you say,j the comfort and encouragement is a big plus in helping us in our journey in life. Thanks.

I am definitely an optimist.
I don't immediately give up. I try first and if I fail, that's the time that I give up.
Failure is just part of the game but we should always think of winning.

Dorisday, I must say I am impressed with your outlook in life. Yes, failures are stepping stones to success, but that does not make it easier for us. You are one in a million who look at the bright side of life and fight back. I hope you will always have this fighting spirit and bounce back from all the failures in life, ever smiling. God Bless.

my problem is im very much the pessimist. the reason being is that most of my life bad things have happened more then good. only 8 short yrs was i an optimist and that was when married to my late hubby. everything was great when he was alive.

Bunnybon7, I am sooo sorry for you. I can understand the hurt and unhappiness you must be feeling on the loss of your very beloved husband. I know it is easy to say, but think of all the good times you had with him and thank God for giving him to you for 8 precious years. I know things must be hard for you all alone and that pessimism will set in, but hold on and dont give up. Life will be better for you as time goes by. You will be remembered in my prayers.

Hi dear friend, I was going to be a pessimist for not getting your presence in myLot for long time. Now I'm optimist that you have not lost. Trust is the basis of optimism. I have trust on my friends and relatives. In that sense I'm an optimist. When someone would hurt my trust definitely I shall get pain. But I will never loose my belief on humans. To believe humans is to believe God. You can say I'm optimist.

Woweeee ! thats philosophy at its highest ! Im glad you missed me. I did too but at times the writing bug disappears and I am deep in work, so taking out time is difficult, or when I do have time, I neglect mylot and play online games. Naughty of me to neglect my friends. I agree that trust is important, but then there are times when we feel let down when we expect too much optimistically. Thats when I feel bad, but as you say, you cant judge a box of apples by one rotten one. Thanks.

Its only human to swing between optimism and pessimism. I am forever in this state, and hope for the best, but am prepared for the negative. This gives me a chance to shield myself from setbacks. Guess its the same with you. However these days you are optimistic, so life must be kind to you. Good luck and may it always be so.

I am more of an optimist. i believe that thgings happen for a reason and so i take negativity in a positive manner too. If you look for the right reasons you will find one!

I think your philosophy is great. Its not easy to take negativity in a positive manner or look out for the right reason in something bad. You are an exceptional person. May you always be positive in life and God Bless.

I know I can relate with you. I too become pessimistic at times and think of negative things instead of holding on to the belief that things will work out for the best. I guess its only human. Thanks.

im a pessimist and im proud to say that. I expect everything not to turn out right. Maybe because i dont trust my self or simply i get thrilled when my expectations turn out ok. i just dont want to be frustrated in the end if i think of positive things that turned bad.

I think I understand your logic. If we look and the negative side and dont raise our hopes too much, then when things do work out, we feel elated and when it does not work out as planned, we expected it to be like that, so we feel better about it. Only too human and emotion. Thanks.
