When you write a story, do you base it on your life experiences or do you totally make it up? I write stories basing on what I have experienced in life. I just add in the fictional stuff to make it a little more interesting than it already is.

hello lyn!
when i write discussions,it's easier for me to have it based on my life experience.
but there are times,i am like you.i do put some additional spices to have a little enjoyment.so that makes,a little fun and a lot of true events. but,we really can't tell which ones true, unless you really know the person physically, right?
nevertheless,it is a lot easier to share experiences from real life situations than making up stories. do you agree?
i guess it just depends on who are you referring to. there are topics or stories which are based from other people's lives but the author intended to make it his own life or vice versa.so,you still can be confused at times.^_^

If you guys think by stories I mean discussions, then you got me wrong. I really mean writing stories such as short stories and novels. If I make up experiences when I create a new discussion, it would be really difficult. I always base it from experience, whether my own personal experience or from others.

ah,yeah,it is hard to make up stories when posting here. but you can also have some twists on it when you do posts here. not like in short stories or novels, you would really have to be imaginative and widen your imaginations to create more fun and exciting story as you want it to be.

Yes, it is. I'm lucky enough to have the natural talent to write such humorous and funny stories when I want to, and dramatic ones when I have to.

Hi Lyn,
Thanks, for talking shop! :O)
My way of thinking may sound absurd, so if you find you can't relate, I'll totally understand! Hahaha! :P
Thing is, I've studied "story" for so long, and I'm pretty good at it. It's just that a lot of the time, it's just not me. So, I write from another angle. &, just as those who've studied Grimm fairy tales warn that they're not really all "stories," I often want to give the same warning. At the end of the day, what I like best could be called inter-disciplinary conceptual language art.
But I write stories, too. Here's the weirdness: the more autobiographic my stories are, the less anyone else would be likely to see it! :P What I mean is that when I write a story with a male main viewpoint character--it may look like my life on the surface. But, the depth is usually alien to me.
When the main viewpoint character's a girl, however, I feel free to share what I REALLY feel! I just feel free to let it all out, there! And, when the story universe is really bizarre, my feelings and drives and curiosities all burst into full view! If you do a search for
giovani princess dawn candy
You'll find stories in something like the astral plane starring Princess Dawn & Candy. They're NOTHING like me, on the surface. But they truly are my soul. And, my soul isn't even in ONE person! It's divided between the two of them! :P Hahaha!
Same with a family musical I wrote: THE BLACKBERRY KIDS GO TREASURE HUNTING. The heroic leads are Tatiana & her sidekick, Brian. They're nothing like me, at all, externally. But, between them, you've got my soul on display.
I seldom write about anyone who looks like me or lived where I lived. They usually DO something I've done, but it takes up wayyyyy more of their lives than it ever took up of mine. Hmmm. I'm glad you helped me notice that, Lyn.
Hope that was helpful. :O)
Sunshine & Blessings,
Giovani

I think I understand. I think. I write from a certain character's point of view, a lot like you do. But most of the time, I write from a female character's view point. I base some of them from experience, but not necessarily my own. I just love to poke at the emotions and feelings of my characters, twist them around and make something uniquely fun out of it all.

When I write a story, I always write based on my experience and a little bit of imagination to make it more interesting. But I'm actually not good in writing When I'm writing for a discussion though, I always do based on my experience and my life story because it is so much easier to converse my idea and write it down, otherwise it is so difficult and slow me down when I have to write based on imagination.
Have a nice day

I do the same thing. Discussions are much more difficult if it is just based on imaginations. I wouldn't know what to say in response to those who would comment on it.

Yes, sometimes I did that. I am not good at making it up.
My life is full of happy and sad stories. And that makes me think it will be good if I tell others. Then, I also realize that by writing my life experience, I can find something I don't know before. It really makes me encourage to write more and more.

It makes our hearts lighter once we share our feelings to others in whatever form of expression we want. It also is a great way of seeing how we've matured as we look back and read them.

When I write a story I totally make it up. I may make the characters
have some of my personal attributes such as parts of my personality
but thats the closest to my life as I like to get.Not to mention
reality tends to bore me I prefer fantasy or if it is non fiction
it has to be interesting to get me to read it.
